After long complaints, the time has come in World of Warcraft. The legendary axe is almost being handed out.
Paladins, warriors, and death knights have had to build quite a tolerance for frustration in World of Warcraft over the past 3 months. Despite the current patch enticing players with a legendary axe that only these classes can use, some are still waiting in vain today. The system that is supposed to prevent “bad luck” was too weak.
Now Blizzard has made improvements – and suddenly, there are legendary axes in dozens.
What was the problem? Fyr’alath was the big target for many warriors, paladins, and death knights. The legendary axe is highly sought after – but also quite rare. Because the axe is so important for some classes, Blizzard implemented a “Bad Luck Protection”. Those who have no luck with the weapon drop receive “Embers,” which will increase the drop chance in the future. Thus, if you regularly raid Amirdrassil, you increase your chances of obtaining the weapon eventually.
However, this bonus was too low – and its exact effects were not visible. Thus, it was hard to see whether the Embers had any significant effect.
What has Blizzard changed? With the maintenance on February 21, 2024, Blizzard drastically increased the effects of the Embers (via WoW Forum). They now significantly increase your drop chance for Fyr’alath.
Blizzard does not provide an exact value again, but the results speak for themselves.
This change also applies retroactively to any Embers you may have already used. If you have been regularly collecting Embers over the past few weeks, then your drop chance for Fyr’alath should now be many times higher than it was just last week.
How significant is the change? Blizzard does not mention exact values, only speaking of a “significant” increase. However, it is clear from the first reports from raid groups that have already defeated Fyrakk yesterday that the improvement is likely in the high percentage range. Screenshots in the WoW subreddit frequently show that in some groups, even 12 people received the axe simultaneously.
Thus, it is obvious that the drop rate has been drastically increased. However, the legendary axe is still not guaranteed this week. Anyone who has been diligent in collecting Embers from Fyr’alath over the past few weeks will probably finally hold the axe in their hands by next week.
