At the Mak’Gora tournament in WoW Classic HC, things get wild. So wild that even the cameraman ends up dying.
In the HC variant of World of Warcraft Classic, duels are a very special thing. Especially the ‘Mak’Gora’ variant, where the duel only ends with the death of one of the two characters, is particularly intense. After all, each character has only one life. If you die here, you have to create a new character afterwards.
What kind of tournament was this? On October 30th and 31st, the ‘OTK World of Warcraft Classic Hardcore’ tournament was held. Here, many heroes faced off against each other – and only winners advanced, while others had to say goodbye to their character forever.
But not only the participants could permanently say goodbye to their character, but also a supposedly uninvolved hero, who was only supposed to function as a cameraman. As this clip shows, he died during the duels:
How did the cameraman die? The reason for the death was the item ‘Goblin Mortar’, which can be crafted by engineers. The mortar deals between 400 and 500 fire damage to targets in a small area and stuns the victims for 3 seconds.
Such items usually only hit enemies, in this case, the opponent in the duel. However, the Goblin Mortar seems to be somewhat peculiar, as it repeatedly also hits uninvolved players or group members, who then suddenly stand on the brink of death – or are pushed over it.
Reports about the Goblin Mortar have been around for a while, as it has also frequently killed bank twinks in cities, even though the mortar does not seem to hit neutral targets every time.
Why can’t you see the cameraman? In such streams and tournaments, it is common for the cameraman to make his own character invisible. This also works in modern WoW with the chat command “/console showplayer” – this makes your character invisible. This invisibility, of course, only applies to yourself, all others can still see the character as usual.
Have you also participated in a Mak’Gora duel or even such a tournament in WoW Classic HC? How were your experiences?
