The fresh Classic realms of World of Warcraft have launched and are already causing problems. The demand is huge, and the capacity is quickly reached.
World of Warcraft Classic is launching once again. Some particularly large realms have opened in all regions – and the demand was enormous. Many realms reached their capacity in a very short time, leading to login difficulties.
What’s happening with WoW Classic? World of Warcraft Classic launched the “Anniversary” realms last night for WoW Classic. These are brand new realms to celebrate the 20th anniversary of WoW. This is an opportunity for everyone to start anew on a realm “from scratch” and make a name for themselves on the server before large guilds are formed or the content becomes irrelevant again.
What happened during the night? Although the realms opened at 11:00 PM our time on a weekday, the rush was immense. Within minutes, the status of almost all realms changed from “Recommended” to “Full”. Anyone wanting to log in had to either contend with a queue – or hope to actually get into it, as many only received the message “Connecting to the realm …” and then it didn’t go any further.
Meanwhile, the initial rush has subsided, and logging in is now possible.
Can you still play on the realms? Yes, that is still possible. Even when the realms are displayed as “full”, characters can usually still be created there. This is partly due to the fact that the capacity of the realms has been significantly increased (compared to other Classic realms), but also because the initial rush generally subsides fairly quickly. While during the first weekend almost everyone who is interested plays a lot, the surge gradually eases over the coming days.
Anyone who wants to experience World of Warcraft Classic “from the beginning” again should seize the opportunity now. Because when – or if at all – Classic realms will launch completely “fresh” again is uncertain. Those who let this chance slip through their fingers may regret it later.
After 20 years, it can also be said: WoW is more than just a game.
