In summer, you should not completely close the shutters during the day, but leave the light slits open.
In many apartments, blinds or shutters are mounted in front of the windows and are therefore a helpful protection for many people to keep the sun and thereby the heat outside.
However, experts and manufacturers warn against completely closing the shutters. In the worst case, the window panes behind them could explode.
Those who lower the shutters completely in heat risk a bursting window
Why should you never completely close the shutters? With completely closed shutters and windows, heat accumulates extremely between the window and the shutter, which in the worst case can lead to deformation of the slats or the glass pane shattering.
Some manufacturers, such as Rademacher, therefore recommend leaving the light slits slightly open and not lowering the shutter completely so that the air can circulate and exchange between them.
An alternative would be to tilt the window. However, this also allows heated air behind the blinds to enter the apartment.
Ökotest.de also warns that especially dark plastic shutters can heat up significantly when the sun shines directly on them. If you close the slats completely, this promotes high temperatures and deformations of the material. Large window areas can also intensify the heat development.
As it gets hotter outside, many people ventilate at night. However, in very high temperatures, this is hardly sufficient. Your apartment stores the heat in the walls and furniture. Those who really want to be prepared for the heat must now take other measures: Experts say that opening the windows at night and closing them during the day is no longer the best strategy against the heat
