AI has become an integral part of many people’s daily lives. However, especially in video games like World of Warcraft, one should not rely on it too much.
World of Warcraft has grown immensely with now 10 expansions. Keeping track of all the content, areas, and routes is not that easy. Newcomers can easily get lost and feel overwhelmed when they need help. This also applies to WoW Classic – as the game world was already gigantic back then.
However, those who need help today often do not search on Google for a solution but rather ask an AI like ChatGPT. That this can bring more confusion than assistance in the case of World of Warcraft is now made evident by an example.
What was asked? The user Tercel9 wanted to know from ChatGPT how to get from Stonard to Kargath in World of Warcraft. This is actually a pretty simple route that runs relatively straight north.
However, ChatGPT apparently had other plans, as the player was supposed to embark on a little trip through the entire kingdom of Stormwind – over the Deadwind Pass, into Duskwood to Elwynn, then a detour to Westfall, and finally over Redridge and the Burning Steppes to Kargath in the Blasted Lands.
ChatGPT even wanted to know afterwards if it should draw a map – to which the answer was yes.
The map shown by the AI does not exist in the game as such – it is a product of the AI’s “imagination” and seems to be loosely based on the actual maps that exist in WoW. Not only is the arrangement of the areas completely incorrect, but it also does not match the route that ChatGPT itself proposed in any way.

This request to ChatGPT is being discussed in the community. Most are amused by the nonsense that the AI has conjured up. Many lament that AI seems to have real difficulties with anything related to gaming.

In the end, most comments are probably correct. At least currently, when it comes to questions about most video games, you are better off listening to guides, Reddit posts, or videos – and perhaps only using AI for other matters. This way, you also do not completely lose your research skills.
Long routes are also a bit of nostalgia for World of Warcraft – just like a find that a player made for only one Euro.
