Valorant already had a Ranked mode in beta. In it, players of similar experience levels could compete against each other to find out who the best are. But upon release, the new mode was suddenly gone. Now it should return soon, and the game director explains why it took so long.
When is the Ranked release? After players have been eagerly waiting for weeks for the release of the Ranked system, game director Joe Ziegler has finally made an official statement. On Twitter, he revealed that the release of the Ranked mode is expected to happen next week.
Why did it take so long? In the beta, there was already a Ranked mode in Valorant, but it was sorely missed at release. According to Ziegler, this is due to the following reasons:
- They wanted to ensure that the servers were running stably
- They wanted to make sure everything was “good”
- Players who are just now getting into Valorant should have the chance to get to know the game first in the unranked mode
Valorant Ranked System – How do the rankings work?
What is Ranked mode anyway? The Ranked mode in Valorant is a classic ranking system where players are divided into ranks and tiers. There are 22 ranks and 8 tiers. The highest tier, called Valorant, is not divided into ranks and includes the best of the best.
Depending on their skill levels, players gather in a certain rank range. This way, players of similar experience usually compete against each other, and the matches remain – at least in theory – fair.
At the end of a season, the rankings are reset, and you receive cosmetic rewards. The higher your rank, the better the loot.
How do you get into Ranked mode? To receive a rank, you need to play a number of placement rounds in the normal mode. In the beta, that was 20. Your starting rank is then calculated from that.
Is Ranked a good idea? In principle, it is beneficial to play in Ranked mode and meet like-minded players. But those who want to pursue a career as a pro should better stay away from the Ranked mode in Valorant. At least, that’s the advice of top streamer shroud.
