Players of GTA 5 Online want to have figured out the exact timing for the lucky wheel to always win the car (podium). Without glitches. We will show you the theory.

Prizes include cash, RP, discounts, clothing, and also a mysterious prize that can range from cigarettes to the rarest cars.

Is it all a coincidence? It should actually depend on chance. However, some players in the online community are convinced that there is a specific timing that guarantees the car win. And we tested it.
Lucky wheel trick in GTA Online? Win the car without glitches
What is the plan? In short, the theory of some players is that it is not about the strength with which you spin the lucky wheel, but rather about the timing. More specifically, the time that passes after the prompt “Press S to spin the lucky wheel” appears in the upper left corner.
There are two variants that are said to work. One of the most common variants is the 4-second rule.
4.1 seconds timing at the lucky wheel – How does it work?
You need to pay attention to this:
- It must be a “fresh” lucky wheel
- You can recognize this by the clothing symbol being at the top and the car being two spots to the left
- You can do the spin in a session “Invite Only” – That way, you also ensure that it is a new lucky wheel that no one has spun yet
The controls vary by platform. We play on PC and therefore mention the keyboard buttons. On the controller, you have to press what the game shows you – but the tactic remains the same.
Get yourself a stopwatch! You can also use a mobile app for this.
- Go to the lucky wheel
- Confirm with “E” that you want to participate in the lucky wheel
- Confirm the next message about the chances of winning with Enter
- Wait until the prompt “Press S to spin the lucky wheel” appears in the upper left (this happens shortly after your character lays their hand on the wheel)
- Start the stopwatch immediately when the prompt appears
- At exactly 4.10 seconds, you should now quickly and briefly press “S” to spin the wheel (or rotate the analog stick quickly from top to bottom)
If everything worked, the lucky wheel should now land on the car symbol and you win the podium vehicle. At least that’s the theory of some players.
The 2.6 seconds option
An alternative to the 4-second rule is the 2.6 seconds. This timing was found by Reddit users to be the sweet spot.
So follow the above instructions like with the 4.1 seconds, but now press the “S” key (or rotate the analog stick from top to bottom) after 2.5 to 2.6 seconds after the spin prompt.
Allegedly, both timings should lead to winning the car.
This is what players say about it: Opinions on the trick are divided. Some say it is pure coincidence, the seconds do not matter. Others say that they won the car with the 4.1 seconds or the 2.5-2.6 seconds.
Player snorevette says: “It never worked. There is a reason why only about 1 in 20 attempts catches ‘the right timing’.”
I tried it – Does it work?
I have tried the trick with the 4.1 or 2.6 seconds over weeks. Since you can only spin the lucky wheel once a day without cheating, testing it takes a long time.
I can confirm that both tactics worked for me – but not reliably.
It took about 10 spins until I found “the right timing” and spun the lucky wheel after about 2.6 seconds and won my car. Even with the 4.1 seconds rule, it worked for me – after 5 to 6 attempts. In the failed attempts, I was usually only 1-3 fields away from the car win. This suggests that there may be something to these timings.
I will now try this week by week and see if I can reproduce it reliably. It’s still unclear whether it just takes a lot of practice – because you might have to spin at the exact tenth of a second – or if it’s really just pure chance that plays a role, and you just have to win at some point.
Hit the wrong symbol – What am I doing wrong?
The Reddit user MeowtainMan has taken a closer look at the lucky wheel method and explains how it works.
He says:
- If you land “after” the car when spinning, you spin too early
- If you land “before” the car when spinning, you spin too late
This is because the speed of the spin decreases the later you spin. If you press “S” right after the prompt, you spin the wheel the fastest. If you wait several seconds, the wheel will spin significantly slower.
