Blizzard has released a new cinematic for World of Warcraft. It is about Sylvanas – and finally many mysteries are revealed.
Unexpectedly, Blizzard has suddenly released a new cinematic that players will see in patch 9.2. Unsurprisingly, it is about Sylvanas Windrunner – and some pretty dramatic moments from her life. You can already watch the cinematic here.
Spoiler warning: The video contains important details about the story of patch 9.2. If you don’t want to see that, you should not click on the video and continue reading.
Where does the cinematic come from? The cinematic comes from the PTR for patch 9.2 and is therefore part of the story of the plot in patch 9.2. That the cinematic can already be seen now is not a bug, but intentional, and was announced by Blizzard. The video provides context so that the quests being tested on the PTR make sense.
What is shown in the video? The cinematic shows Sylvanas after the events of patch 9.1. She is in the hands of the other characters after the battle in Oribos – namely Baine, Thrall, Jaina, and Bolvar. Uther is also present. They discuss how to deal with the former Banshee Queen.
Uther explains that Sylvanas’ soul has been shattered and she is internally carrying a permanent conflict. The two fragments of her soul are in dispute and the rest of the elf cannot accept what she has become – at first she does not even recognize it. Sylvanas kneels in her vision as ranger general in elf form before the burning of Teldrassil and watches herself give the order – over and over again.
The heroes wonder whether they should even wake Sylvanas. Especially Jaina and Baine believe that Sylvanas should never be awakened again – after all, she is responsible for so much suffering, including the transformation of Anduin Wrynn.
However, Uther recognizes that Sylvanas must have gone through a similar suffering as he himself – and again forms a connection with her. In a conversation, he ensures that Sylvanas acknowledges her own actions. He also warns her that she may never find forgiveness and that her actions are unforgivable. But the only thing that would be even more unforgivable would be to do nothing at all.
A lot of time passes before Sylvanas opens her eyes. This explains why she is part of patch 9.2.
What do you think of this cinematic? Do you like the story of Sylvanas and how it is now being told? Or should the Banshee have been left to extinguish her life lights entirely?
