Total War: Warhammer 3 will soon receive its biggest and most important update: Immortal Empires. As preparation, the developers are repeatedly showcasing new commanders that will be introduced with the update. The latest could spring directly from a nightmare and excites MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus.
Total War: Warhammer 3 absolutely thrilled me at release, even though it is still incomplete. The Immortal Empires are still missing along with the extensive content from the predecessors, as well as an incentive to play it more often.
Aside from that, the new Total War has always had a bitter aftertaste for me. One of my favorite gods, Tzeentch, was simply boring and weak. The focus on magic and light units never really worked.
I set Tzeentch aside, befriended Cathay, and soon pushed Warhammer 3 aside to invest several hundred hours in the predecessor instead. But the latest trailer suddenly makes Tzeentch look really good again.
Preparing for the release of Immortal Empires on August 23 and the accompanying “Champions of Chaos” DLC, the developers regularly showcase new legendary commanders. The latest of these is Vilitch, the twisted twin.
Vilitch himself is rather hidden, as he is the small “growth” on the back of the commander – his brother Thomin. As a follower and champion of Tzeentch, he has merged with his brutal brother.
For Tzeentch is the god of change, magic, and mutation, and Vilitch certainly looks like such a nightmare. He and his controlled brother are now using a mix of magic and melee to solidify and expand the dominion of the chaos god.
In fact, the description of the commander and his entire faction suggests that Tzeentch might finally become a faction that could be really strong in Immortal Empires – one that does justice to the ruler of magic.
We have embedded the trailer for Immortal Empires here for you:
Vilitch brings useful advantages to the game
What can the commander do? Total War: Warhammer 3 is a strategy game and even the best strategy game of 2022 according to Metacritic. Accordingly, you utilize commanders and units to command your army and expand your empire.
Legendary commanders usually serve in Total War as a sub-faction of the playable races. They bring their own abilities, starting locations on the map, and special traits. The faction of the twin commander offers:
- a barrier and Tzeentch corruption for vassals
- access to changing paths
- bonuses from high winds of magic
- souls through their own losses in battles
- access to Tzeentch’s “Teleport” stance
The commander himself also has abilities. He steals 15% of the experience from other lords, has reduced teleportation costs, and a special passive trait. It may sound unfair at first, but traditionally Tzeentch is a faction that tends to avoid direct confrontations.
For those interested in Tzeentch and the Warhammer universe in general, I recommend my column:
In a perfect world, the biggest MMORPG today would be World of Warhammer
