MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus is live at BlizzCon 2023. New info on Diablo 4 and World of Warcraft has literally shaken the hall. Such thunderous applause has rarely been heard even at gamescom.
After 4 years, BlizzCon is taking place live with an audience in Anaheim, California for the first time again – and we were invited. For me, this is the very first BlizzCon in person and I am absolutely overwhelmed.
This is not just due to the big announcements:
- the first expansion for Diablo 4 is coming in 2024 and brings a brand new class
- for World of Warcraft, 3 expansions are already known
- WoW Classic is getting more content with Cataclysm and through the Season of Discovery, content that has never existed in WoW
The mood here on site is just … different. I know gamescom, I have been to PAX East, general fairs where gamers walk around and check out what new things are out there in the market.
But here are the fans, people who are passionately devoted to Blizzard. You can feel it. The atmosphere in the hall was fantastic, every developer was greeted with roaring applause, even from the new and unknown Warcraft Rumble – and the surprise host Phil Spencer.
Despite a little disappointment with Overwatch, it was almost impossible to hear the announcements consistently most of the time because everyone was cheering constantly. Or someone wanted to express their love for Chris Metzen. Or … because the eternal dispute between Horde and Alliance never rests even in real life.
I flew over 12 hours to California and had to fight through several hours of border control and more, but it has been worth it so far. I am looking forward to what is coming. And for those who do not want to fly to LA for this, Asmongold shows that even watching from home is worth it:
