A new anime is coming to Netflix soon. The template? The legendary game series Devil May Cry. You can see the first teaser here.
When it comes to series adaptations of video games, skepticism still lingers. While there have been some really good offshoots in recent years, such as Arcane (League of Legends), Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and The Last of Us, many remain cautious. Now, Netflix has released the first teaser for a new anime adaptation – based on a game that many of us surely played in our youth: Devil May Cry.
What can we see in the trailer? Honestly, not much yet, but it is just a teaser. We get to see the look of Dante, who dodges attacks in true action-man style and performs a somersault in mid-air – but that’s how we remember him from the games.
Some had already feared that the project would be put on ice.
The initial reactions on YouTube were positive. After just about 2 hours, there were over 12,500 upvotes with only 282 negative reviews.
When does the series start? There is still no release date for Devil May Cry on Netflix. You will have to wait a little longer until Dante and Vergil once again set out to protect people from the minions of the underworld.
Wasn’t there something like this before? Some fans might remember that there was already an animated series of Devil May Cry – namely from 2007. The series received mixed reactions from fans at the time, and many critics believe that the right spirit of Devil May Cry was not captured back then. Nevertheless, the old series currently holds a solid 7.0 / 10 rating on IMDb.
Whether the new series can surpass it remains to be seen. Fans, however, seem eager to watch Dante kick some serious butt against various dark beings.
