Valorant this summer on PC: On the first weekend of April, the new shooter Valorant was presented with great hype on Twitch. In addition to many gameplay streams, there was also a long developer interview with the streamer Dr. Lupo. There, the developers confirmed that the PC release for Valorant is still planned for the summer despite the Corona crisis.
At the presentation event for Valorant, where we from MeinMMO had the chance to test the game, the summer release was also described as “very likely”. The title has been in development for 6 years, and they are currently managing to work on it well from home.
Will Valorant also come to PS4 and Xbox One?
What about a console release? So far, the developers have been rather vague about a possible release for PS4 and Xbox One.
In an interview with Twitch streamer “TimTheTatMan,” lead designer Trevor Romleski expressed: “Our focus is currently on the PC version. We are open to exploring new opportunities for other platforms, but at this point, we are concentrating on the PC platform.”
In a conversation with Dr. Lupo, the developers also explained that there are currently no plans for console support. This also applies to a macOS version. A move towards consoles is possible in the future, but it seems unlikely to expect that too early.
Valorant Beta launch and registration – here’s how to join
When did the beta start? The closed beta of Valorant started on April 7, 2020, at 2:00 PM German time. Riot had previously stated that they wanted to keep the beta phase as short as possible.
This is how the beta registration works: To participate in the beta, you need to create an account on the Riot homepage and link it to your Twitch account. Access to the beta can then be obtained through Twitch drops. We’ve comprehensively compiled everything about accessing the beta here.
The number of beta slots depends on server capacity, and game progress will not carry over to the final game. However, the developers explained in the Dr. Lupo interview that there will be a reward for beta participants.
Will there be an open beta? It is likely that it will remain a closed beta. According to the developers, an open beta is rather unlikely.
What is Valorant’s gameplay like?
This is Valorant: Valorant is a free-to-play shooter that is overall reminiscent of tactical shooters like Counter-Strike. At the same time, it has elements of a hero shooter: There are various characters, each bringing their own abilities. Many streamers have expressed their enthusiasm. At Dr. Lupo, the developers confirmed that there will be ten different “agents” available at the start of the closed beta. This will be accompanied by four maps. Both contents are expected to be expanded after the release; however, there will not be new weapons initially.
