In Valorant a particular weapon has been dominating the meta for a long time. The sniper rifle Operator, which takes down enemies with a single shot. However, according to pro player TenZ, there is a solution for the dominance of the Operator.
What is the deal with the Operator? The Operator, affectionately called “OP,” is essentially the Valorant version of the AWP from Counter-Strike. A massive, superior sniper rifle with a large caliber. Anyone hit by the OP is almost always dead. Only a poorly aimed shot to the leg with full shields can survive.
Since the Operator is so powerful, it currently dominates the meta gameplay of Valorant. As soon as a team can afford the OP as a weapon, it becomes a serious threat to the entire opposing team, and thus the gameplay is currently designed to block the sniper with so-called “smokes,” or smoke bombs and other visibility obstructions.
Moreover, the OP dominates in the hands of agents like Reyna or Jett, as they can quickly change position and thus negate the weapon’s disadvantage of slowness. According to pro player TenZ, an OP is already hard enough, but once two players on a team have one, the entire round becomes a nightmare.
All of this makes the weapon too strong in the eyes of Tyson “TenZ” Ngo from the well-known pro team Cloud9, and he has an idea on how to change that.
Pro Gamer wants to add Scope Sound to the Operator
This is what the pro says: According to TenZ, much would be improved if one knew as a soon-to-be victim of an Operator that a sniper was lurking. This would be solved with a sound that is heard every time someone activates the scope. This way, one could quickly take cover or use a defensive skill and would not be at the mercy of the sniper.
How is the idea being received? Various followers of TenZ find the idea good, but there are also opposing voices. The European pro gamer Mixwel from Team G2 disagrees. For him, the OP is already less powerful in the offensive than the AWP in CS. With a sound, the weapon would be unnecessarily weakened.
Additionally, he does not see the problem with the Operator. But rather that there are agents like the already mentioned Jett or Reyna. They can quickly change position with their movement skills and thus dominate with the OP. But that is a fundamental part of the game and belongs there.
It remains exciting whether and how the current Operator meta will change and whether the sniper weapon may get a nerf to disrupt the gameplay. If you want to see more top weapons in Valorant, then check out our weapon tier list. While the Operator is at the top, there are also alternatives.
