The Twitch streamer Madi “itsmerku” asked her mother if she could celebrate her new rank in the shooter Valorant with her. The streamer meant it as a joke. However, her mother was genuinely happy and not only moved her daughter but also the internet with her reaction.

Itsmerku wants to celebrate her new rank with her mother
This achievement is about: On August 18, itsmerku posted on Twitter a conversation with her mother. In it, she explained that she was about to reach the rank of Platinum in Valorant, only one victory was needed. If she succeeded in the promotion, she wanted to celebrate the event for fun with her mother.
Why is this a big deal? From “Iron” to “Radiant,” there are a total of 9 different ranks in Valorant, all of which – except for the highest rank – are divided into 3 tiers. Platinum is right in the middle and is the fifth highest rank.
For some, Platinum may not necessarily sound like a special achievement. However, Itsmerku indicated that she had been on the “really bad” ranks until now. For her, it is the greatest achievement in the game so far.
Unlike Trymacs, she has at least achieved her rank through her own efforts.
This is how the mother reacted: For itsmerku’s mother, a joke celebration was out of the question. She said that the celebration could be real as long as her daughter views the promotion as an achievement. She then asked her daughter how she would like to celebrate it. Only with a cake or also a dinner or lunch?
How did the streamer take the reaction? Itsmerku seemed initially completely overwhelmed by her mother’s positive reaction. Apparently, she had expected a simple “no.” In the end, she decided on a cake and lunch.
How does her mother justify the celebration: The streamer emphasized that she would follow her mother’s preferences and was just happy that her mother was present. A lunch at home would be enough. But itsmerku’s mother saw it differently. After all, it is a big deal.
Even itsmerku’s remark that it was just a computer game was not accepted by the mother:
“But not for you. Maybe for others. But what makes you happy is good.”

She said she just wanted to acknowledge what is important to her daughter. After all, everyone has different interests.
At this point, itsmerku was already noticeably moved and stated that she was close to tears. However, the mother added: “As long as you are proud of your achievements, that makes me happy.” To this, itsmerku reacted with crying emojis, explaining that they were tears of joy.
Did she succeed then? Yes! Also on August 18, itsmerku posted that she had reached the Platinum rank. Still on stream, she called her mother to share the news. Her mother rejoiced with her and congratulated itsmerku, who thanked her for the support.
However, the mother also asked the streamer how much money she had earned from all of this – after all, she needed to know if itsmerku had enough money for an ice cream cake. You can watch the call here, a part 2 is also available. The two speak English.
Internet celebrates mother-daughter relationship
This is how the story goes: On Twitter, itsmerku’s post received nearly 50,000 likes, the clip of the conversation with her mother received nearly 20,000 views – her other clips are below 50. Itsmerku’s chat also reacted positively and celebrated the promotion with her.
The e-sports journalist Jake Lucky shared itsmerku’s conversation with her mother and the resulting discussion. He called for: “Normalize parents celebrating their children’s gaming achievements!” Many were impressed by the mother and her support. (via Twitter)
However, there was also some grumbling. Not everyone thinks that the achievement deserves a cake. But itsmerku explains why it is so important to her: She would be working full-time and would be returning to university again in the fall.
Streamer touched by her mother’s support because it was very different in the past

And her parents had not always supported that. They had tried to deter the streamer from becoming a content creator. Itsmerku’s mother had previously reacted very negatively to her interests and even tore up her books because she – apparently too happily – read.
Receiving support from her parents now means especially much to her. By now, her mother has also conveyed that her father is very proud too. The streamer says: “I feel a part of my soul healing.”
Not a few wish they too had such parents.
