As part of the 25th anniversary of Total War, Creative Assembly has announced the next content for Total War: Warhammer 3. Not only are there 4 new commanders coming, but also a completely revised map along with a lore-rich event.
What is this DLC about?
- “Lords of the End Times” will be released in summer 2026 and will bring four new commanders, one of whom is expected to be free with the accompanying update.
- The first of the featured commanders is Nagash, the first Lich, and at least Neferata, the Vampire Queen, is seen in the trailer. The entire update has a strong influence from “Death.” The units will be a mix of Vampire Lords and Tomb Kings.
- “End Times” is meant to live up to its name and will not only bring new commanders but also a visible change to the map.
This is how the map will change: As seen in a short “flyover”, the entire Warhammer world will be engulfed in fire and dark magic. Formerly green jungles or snow-capped mountains will become craters filled with lava flows or infused with the greenish magic of death.
The extent and nature of the map changes will depend on your choices during the campaign. Even the maps for real-time battles will adapt accordingly with new assets. Nagash himself is expected to be able to change the world through his actions and will gain magical powers that have not been seen before in Total War: Warhammer.
Alongside Nagash as one of the main figures of the update, Archaon will also receive an overhaul with narrative events, which are meant to make his impending destruction of the entire world more tangible.
Total War plans new content for 2026, promises a big surprise by 2025
Behind the changes are several lore events: Nagash has previously tried to dominate the world through death but failed. He has been resurrected several times, and we apparently find ourselves at one of those points with the next DLC.
In the real “End Times,” Archaon the Everchosen, the strongest champion of Chaos, indeed destroys the world and literally brings it to an end. Warhammer Fantasy then transitions to Age of Sigmar in the story.
However, the update is not meant to signify the end of the game, the developers promise, as much more will come after the End Times
. Additionally, there is another teaser.
Together with the announcement of “Lords of the End Times”, Creative Assembly announced Total War: Medieval 3 as a new title in the franchise. The games will also receive a new engine, providing developers with more opportunities and bringing Total War to consoles.
If that wasn’t enough, on December 11 or in the night between December 11 and 12 German time, players can hope for new announcements during the Game Awards. What exactly will be presented here has not yet been revealed by the developers, but it should be a surprise for more Total War.
At the same time as the livestream, the developers released two major updates that make Total War: Warhammer even bigger. On one hand, there is a DLC with three new commanders along with an update with changes and a free lord.
On the other hand, starting today, December 4, any owner of any part of the Warhammer series from Total War can play the massive „Immortal Empires“ campaign, which is the reason many fans have sunk so many hours into the strategy game: A strategy game with over 280 factions will soon be given away on Steam – But only to those who own its predecessors
