Throne and Liberty (PC, PS5) is an upcoming MMORPG from NCSoft that is set to release in 2023. The developers are revealing some new information about the release.
According to a survey on MeinMMO, MMORPG fans are looking forward to no game as much as Throne and Liberty, formerly known as Project TL. It is considered the greatest hope in the MMORPG sky.
Final Tests Start Soon in Korea
On February 21 and 22, 2023, the final tests of Throne and Liberty will start in Korea, as announced by NCSoft. After that, the marketing campaign for the pre-launch will begin, which is expected to include a detailed presentation of Throne and Liberty.
No exact date for the release of the MMORPG has been mentioned. However, the time frame remains: Throne and Liberty is set to release in the first half of 2023 – that is, within the next 4 months.

NCSoft Layoffs – No Impact on Release Expected
The western division of NCSoft recently laid off around 20% of its workforce. Affected are employees in the USA and the UK, whose jobs were not directly related to gaming (via Venturebeat).
NCSoft’s CEO, Jeff Andersson, said the following:
We can confirm that we have laid off about 20% of the workforce at NC West today, primarily affecting positions outside of game development, as part of a global realignment with our headquarters in Korea. The affected employees received a severance package and access to resources to assist with job placement.
The magazine MassivelyOP raised further questions about this, especially regarding the release of Throne and Liberty:
“Throne & Liberty is still working on its global launch and is not affected by this event,” a spokesperson replied.
No Publisher Known Yet, Rumors About Amazon
The developers have not yet confirmed a global partner to take on the role of publisher for Throne and Liberty outside of Korea. CFO Hong Won-jun stated that they would not reveal further information about the MMORPG until they disclose their publisher (via MMORPG.com).
Since the pre-launch campaign is coming up at the end of the month and new information is promised, we should soon know who the publisher will be.
According to Money Today, it could be that NCSoft and Amazon are currently negotiating a deal. Therefore, Amazon could become the publisher in Europe and North America. However, these are just rumors, nothing is confirmed.
