Instead of becoming cheaper, consoles are currently becoming more expensive after release. A professional athlete has now said in an interview that she exclusively plays on the PS1 and PS2.
What games does the athlete play? The professional athlete in question is Rhea Ripley. She is currently the Women’s Champion at Smackdown, one of the two weekly shows of WWE – one of the largest wrestling promotions in the world.
In an interview with Steph McMahon, the daughter of former WWE CEO Vince McMahon, on Spotify, professional wrestler Rhea Ripley discussed her gaming habits. Specifically, she says that she is a huge fan of PlayStation classics:
I stick with what I know. I love my PlayStation 1 and I choose my PlayStation 2 and I only play Crash Bandicoot and Spyro. Those are my games. And Ratchet & Clank, that’s another one.
But those were my games. I knew every single level. I knew everything. I memorized it all… I was obsessed.
Rhea Ripley thus sticks to really old consoles and can ignore the ever-increasing prices for PS5 or even Nintendo Switch. But can such old consoles still run smoothly today? Yes, they can.
Gamers in Wrestling? More than you might think
Are there more wrestlers who like to play games? In fact, gaming wrestlers are not uncommon. Rhea Ripley has now come out as a retro gamer. But she is not the only one.
The wrestler currently active in the AEW promotion, Kenny Omega, had a new song written for his matches in 2025 – by none other than the composer of Final Fantasy XIV. Adam Cole also wrestles for AEW, but is currently on a medically mandated break. He is currently streaming on Twitch under the name TheCHUGS. Included are Hollow Knight: Silksong and The Witcher 3.
In a list from 2015, Whatculture.com mentions, among others, the still active wrestlers R-Truth (WWE), Kofi Kingston (former WWE), AJ Styles (WWE) or also Seth Rollins (WWE). Also active for AEW is Will Osprey, the Aerial Assassin, who repeatedly wears Assassin’s Creed-inspired outfits.
The overlap between wrestlers and gamers seems to be relatively large overall. But how does it look on the other side: Are you gamers and also watch wrestling? If so, which promotion do you prefer to tune into? Rhea Ripley prefers to play on older consoles. What platforms other wrestlers prefer is unfortunately not known. Maybe some are also eyeing the Steam Machine: Valve is currently showing: You shouldn’t get your hopes up about buying a Steam Machine in 2026
