In Valorant a new hero will be released soon. Her name is Skye, and she is a healer and initiator. With her strong support skills, she assists the team with healing and optimal preparation for attack strategies. This will likely make Valorant’s meta play more aggressive.
Who is Skye? The 3rd new hero in Valorant after release is named Skye and hails from Australia. She is a tough guerrilla fighter and militant environmentalist. Her skills are based on fun little figurines, from which she summons spirit animals and sends them after her opponents.
In contrast to the defensive agent Killjoy, who came before Skye, we get an offensive fighter here who initiates battles.
When will Skye be released? The new agent will be available on October 27, 2020. You will need to unlock her in the game as usual.
Where did we get our information? MeinMMO was allowed to preview the new hero at a special test event by Riot. Additionally, we asked the experienced player and content creator aSmoogl for his assessment of Skye’s skills.
Angelo Bülow, known online as aSmoogl, is a 30-year-old gamer, streamer and YouTuber from Berlin. He has over 31,000 subscribers on YouTube and is well-versed in Valorant and other competitive shooters. His videos regularly receive 20,000 views or more on the topic. Skye – What can you actually do?
These are Skye’s skills: Skye primarily has useful support and initiation skills:
- E – Guiding Light: Here Skye sends out a ghostly hawk. You can control it like Jett’s smoke from Jett, and it cleverly seeks out paths around corners and into windows. If you activate the skill again, the hawk explodes and blinds everyone in the vicinity. You can buy up to three charges for 100 credits each. The hawk can be shot down.
- Q – Trailblazer: Skye summons a ghostly Tasmanian tiger. This is a fierce beast from Australia. You can control this creature like Sova’s owl, and if it catches an opponent, they take damage and are stunned. Enemies can shoot the tiger, but it is quite small. It costs 200 credits.
- C – Regrowth: This basic ability heals all friends in the vicinity, but not Skye herself. You have 100 points of healing, which will recharge.
- X – Seekers: Skye’s ultimate sends out three strange jellyfish-like creatures that autonomously seek out enemies. However, they can be shot down. If they catch an opponent, that opponent is nearsighted for a short time, similar to Omen’s skill. You need 7 points to activate this skill.
What is Skye’s primary function? According to our expert aSmoogl, who has extensively tested Skye, the new agent is primarily an initiator. This means that she does not necessarily attack directly from the front row, but prepares and initiates attacks ideally.
With her ultimate, Skye has a remarkable three flashes, effects that blind or hinder opponents. This is more than enough to flush out well-fortified enemies from their positions and make them easy targets for Skye’s teammates.
Especially in situations where a spike needs to be captured, Skye can be game-changing.
What are Skye’s weaknesses? Skye’s skills can all be easily countered if shot down in time. Furthermore, she cannot heal herself. Therefore, you should hold back with Skye and support the team rather than trying to get kills from the front lines.
Who should play Skye? Skye is not necessarily the first choice for top fraggers looking for kill records. She can be played offensively, but her preferred position is in the second row, from where she initiates attacks.
Those who enjoy supporting and healing the team and have fun with heroes like Sova, Sage, and Breach will also find joy here.
How does Skye fit into the meta? Skye could influence the meta gameplay of Valorant with her skills and make it overall more aggressive. With her skills, she can eliminate well-fortified enemies and enhance agents like Sova, Cypher, or Killjoy.
According to aSmoogl, Skye should become a staple of the future Valorant meta. She certainly has the potential to become a future A-tier heroine.
Skye vs. Sage – Which healer is better? So far, the healer Sage is the only agent that heals others. This is now changing with Skye. Her healing affects the entire team and is especially ideal for healing AoE damage, like from grenades. However, Skye cannot heal herself.
Thus, Skye does not make Sage redundant. It even makes sense to have both healers on the team to create a truly robust squad that can get back on its feet in no time.
