What kind of series is The Mighty Nein? It is an animated fantasy series based on the second D&D campaign of Critical Role. It tells the story of various “heroes,” whose fates and goals bring them together to form the titular adventure group “Mighty Nein.”
The characters come from the streamed campaign and are voiced by the same actors who played them during the livestream.
In November 2025, the first season premiered, which will be continued this year with the already announced second season.

When will the second season of The Mighty Nein be released? The second season is expected to be released on Amazon Prime later this year. Members of Critical Role have already confirmed this.

Who is in the cast of the second season of The Mighty Nein? The known English voices from Critical Role will return to their roles in the second season. Among them are:
- Laura Bailey as Jester Lavorre (in German: Friedel Morgenstern)
- Travis Willingham as Fjord Stone (in German: Tobias Schmitz)
- Liam O’Brian as Caleb Widogast (in German: Nico Mamone)

The first season featured some well-known names for guest appearances, such as Mark Strong as Trent Ikithon or Lucy Liu as the Bright Queen. It can be assumed that these two characters will return with the same cast, but additional famous voices may also be cast.
What is the storyline of the second season of The Mighty Nein? Since The Mighty Nein already slightly adapted the pacing and flow of the streamed campaign for the series in the first season, this may also be the case in the second season. - The barbarian Yasha encountered the Mighty Nein at the end of the final episode and asked for their help. Here we will learn more about her backstory and her connection to her accompanying voice.
- Trent Ikithon discovered Esseks’ betrayal and sought to reclaim the Luxon Beacon. At the season finale, this fell into the hands of the wizard.
- The Mighty Nein are now in possession of the Luxon Beacon and must decide what they will do with it. This also means that the Kryn and Trent’s Volstrucker have their sights set on them.
