This week, NCSoft announced that the new MMORPG Throne and Liberty will not be released until 2024. Additionally, Palia has launched its Open Beta and there were again numerous news about WoW, GW2, and others, which we summarize for you in this post.
The highlights of the week:
- The MMORPG year 2023 started off strong with Blue Protocol and Throne and Liberty. However, both games are now slated for release in 2024. You can find out more here: The new MMORPG Throne and Liberty delays its release to revise the boring combat system.
- Palia has entered open beta and anyone can now play it. We have also created a first guide for farming silver and copper ore.
The controversy of the week: Fans of ArcheAge have created a new private server based on version 3.0. However, it started with problems and also offered pre-order packages, which some players criticized.
The week in the podcast: In their own podcast MMO News, the two MeinMMO editors Alexander Leitsch and Mark Sellner discuss the most important news around MMORPGs once again this week. Topics included the delay of Throne and Liberty, the releases of Chronicles of Elyria, and their first personal experiences with Palia.

WoW announces new patch and a player terrorizes an indie MMORPG
This is what happened with the major MMORPGs:
- WoW has announced the release date for the upcoming patch 10.1.7. There will also be a new mount that requires you to complete 10 dungeons per week.
- In WoW Classic, Death Knights are now confused because they are being spat at and insulted by NPCs. There was also a streamer who refused to interrupt his raid to take a child to the hospital.
- ESO warns players against exploiting a bug in the daily endeavors. The game is also free until August 21 (via Twitter).
- Final Fantasy XIV has released a patch with bug fixes (via Loadstone).
- Guild Wars 2 has released a new blog post about the Sky Scale, which will receive new abilities with the next addon (via GW2). There was also a new trailer that we have embedded here:
This is what happened with the smaller MMORPGs:
- In the Polish game Margonem, a player was an all-powerful god for 6 months and terrorized other players.
- On August 16, a new event starts in New World that revolves around the Corrupted Portals in the game (via New World).
- Until September 6, the “Save the Universe” event is running in DC Universe (via DC Universe).
- SWTOR is gradually moving its servers to the cloud starting August 15 and gives an outlook on the next patch (via MassivelyOP).
- Dungeons and Dragons Online has showcased the next patch in a video (via YouTube).
- Pirate 101 has introduced a large “Quality of Life” update with fast travel and UI adjustments (via MassivelyOP).
This is what happened with MMORPGs in development:
- Loftia is a new “Cozy MMORPG” similar to Palia. On Kickstarter, it managed to raise over 500,000 Euros in 10 days – more than three times the hoped amount.
- Tarisland has announced that it will be part of Gamescom and will announce news there (via Discord).
