On Twitch, what is most viewed has shifted in the last 7 days. The tactical shooter “Valorant” is no longer the most viewed category. Now, “Just Chatting” is in the lead, where people talk instead of shoot. Interestingly, in the new top channels, no English is being spoken.
It happens that a game becomes the hype title on Twitch and seems to dominate the platform. In 2018, it was Fortnite, in 2019 Apex Legends, WoW Classic, and Escape from Tarkov briefly gained great fame on the platform, and in recent weeks, it was Valorant. But every hype eventually passes. So too this time.
This is how Valorant fared on Twitch: Since the launch of the closed beta of Valorant on April 7, the shooter from Riot Games has dominated the streaming platform like hardly any other game before.
Because players had to watch Valorant to gain beta access and then be able to play Valorant themselves:
- In April, Valorant had an average of 479,209 viewers and 6,381 channels
- In the last 30 days, there were still 308,348 viewers across 8,541 channels
- In the last 14 days, 254,160 viewers tuned in across 8,415 channels
- In the last 7 days, 174,324 viewers watched across 7,178 channels how the shooter was played
Valorant has now lost 47.8% of the viewed hours compared to the previous week and is “only” in 2nd place among the most viewed games on Twitch.
Nevertheless, this is still a great success for Riot Games, whose Twitch strategy fully succeeded in establishing the new shooter.
Valorant is declining on Twitch – Streamers are looking for new games
This is what the numbers show: The big hype is now over. The closed beta has run its course on Twitch. Probably through Twitch Drops, more and more players came into the closed beta, the allure of the new has faded and the honeymoon period is now a bit over. It is time for the release of Valorant.
The major Twitch streamers who were fully engaged at the start of Valorant have withdrawn from the game in recent days:
- summit1g is back playing Sea of Thieves
- TimTheTatman mostly plays Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
- DrLupo is active in Escape from Tarkov
The streamer who benefited the most from Valorant is the masked Swede Anomaly. He continues to play Valorant, but significantly less than a few weeks ago.
Non-English-speaking streamers dominate “Just Chatting”
This is the new top category on Twitch: Currently, the chat category “Just Chatting” is in 1st place among the most viewed games on Twitch. This is the category where no game is played, but where streamers react to current clips or simply talk with their viewers.
Great successes in this category have been achieved by well-known, major gaming streamers like Felix “cQC” Lengyel, who is known for reaction videos. Or Marcel “MontanaBlack” Eris, who entertains fans in Germany with his unique charm.
Overall, non-English-speaking streamers are leading in this category when looking at the viewed hours:
- Evelone192 (1) and buster (2) stream in Russian.
- Ibai (3) and Rubis (5) stream in Spanish.
- MontanaBlack is in 6th place, presenting his own version of the German language
- 7th is Homyatol, an Italian.
It is certainly a sign that there is currently a lack of “hyped games” when Just Chatting is in 1st place on Twitch.
The German streamer MontanaBlack recently had to let the satirist Jan Böhmermann push him into a right-wing corner . He did not like that at all.
