The gaming year 2025 has many strong contenders for Game of the Year. One of them is the role-playing game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. However, the CEO of the responsible development studio is not really aiming to win the award for themselves.
What does the CEO think? In an interview with PCGamesN, CEO Guillaume Broche and COO Francois Meurisse discussed the new update, which was recently released for Clair Obscur. Their interviewer asked what chances they envision regarding the coveted GotY award. Broche reveals:
[GOTY] is not really our goal; it should just be a consequence of developing a good game, not really the aim. Our philosophy is that we have already achieved so much more than we intended to. We have received so many beautiful messages from players around the world saying that the game has changed their lives and helped them through tough times. There is so much love, and we are very grateful for that.
Accordingly, the COO is already happy that he was able to create genuine, emotional resonance. The award is just a nice bonus on top of that. CEO Guillaume is also touched that fans even suggest Clair Obscur for GotY.
When it comes to personal preferences, it’s a different story. Guillaume reveals who he personally would like to see win the award.
The Chef of Clair Obscur is busy with a hit on Steam
Which game does he wish to win the prize? He personally spends way too much time with Megabonk. It is a game on Steam that captivates users so much that it currently has a rating of 97% positive reviews. Even the German streamer HandOfBlood praises the game highly.
The title is a 3D roguelike that strongly resembles Vampire Survivors. You must slash through hordes of enemies with weapons, items, and upgrades while trying to survive as long as possible.
Broche jokingly admits that the game is currently his life and that he needs help. He is also not sure if his choice is serious enough – but after all, it’s about personal preferences.
Whether Megabonk will be among the potential candidates remains to be seen. However, there is plenty of competition.
Overall, there are particularly many games this year that are suitable contenders for Game of the Year. Whether Hades 2, Hollow Knight: Silksong, or Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – there are a number of candidates for the crown. MeinMMO demon Cortyn reveals what their own personal preferences are: No matter which game wins Game of the Year – we have all won this time
