Many players can hardly wait to uncover the secrets of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, but did you know that this DLC will be the last for the RPG? A sad news, but the head behind Elden Ring gives hope for a successor.
What kind of DLC is this? Elden Ring will initially conclude its story with the DLC “Shadow of the Erdtree”. Players will be drawn into the shadow world of the Lands Between and must explore the world there, uncover secrets, and defeat plenty of bosses.
There should be no shortage of new weapons and armor, and the size of the DLC is said to be considerable. Although everything sounds great, the head of Elden Ring made it clear in an interview that “Shadow of the Erdtree” will be the last DLC for the open-world game.
A sad news, but the story around the Lands Between should not end. There is still hope for a possible successor, at least that’s what Hidetaka Miyazaki suggests.

What was revealed? Hidetaka Miyazaki, the head of FromSoftware and someone who defined the Souls genre, was asked in an interview with the Chinese gaming site zhuanlan.zhihu.com about Elden Ring, the future of the franchise, and the DLC.
While many questions were already answered in previous interviews, there was one that should be of interest to many fans: “Is Shadow of the Erdtree the only DLC for Elden Ring? If not, are there further plans that can be disclosed?”.
And Hidetaka Miyazaki responded as follows: “It is the first and last DLC. We do not plan to add further content to ‘Elden Ring’. […] The approach of FromSoftware is that the future of an IP generally cannot simply be blocked, but it is better to leave some possibilities open. But as for ‘Shadow of the Golden Tree’, it is the only DLC.”
What does Hidetaka Miyazaki want to say by this? In the past, FromSoftware has developed its games in a way that they are not complete. Many of their titles have one or more endings for the narrative, yet they are structured in such a way that they can easily receive a sequel.
So Hidetaka Miyazaki wants to keep the door open for an Elden Ring 2, not close it. So it is not a sure confirmation that a successor might come out in the coming years, but with Armored Core 6, FromSoftware has shown that they can also provide a sequel to older titles after 11 years and not forget them.
