No one expected the success of The First Descendant. Especially on Steam, the game is extremely successful and seems to be holding up remarkably well. Now, however, developer Nexon warns of 3 behaviors they no longer want to see.
How well is The First Descendant performing?
- The First Descendant was released on June 30 and had a spectacular launch, peaking at 264,860 players on Steam. It is the surprise hit on Steam so far in the current year 2024, alongside Palworld.
- What is amazing is that this was not just a flash in the pan; The First Descendant still retains a good portion of players even 2 weeks later: it peaked at 160,699 players, which is quite impressive.
- Although the South Korean loot shooter has faced criticism over microtransactions, plagiarism, and grinding, its factual success cannot be denied. Even though The First Descendant surely will not hold that many players for months to come, it has at least managed to convince some sharp critics of it.
Developers warn players and point out 3 rules
This is the new message: The developers stated today in a post on X that there have been many complaints about inappropriate behavior in The First Descendant lately. They will work on finding measures against this behavior.
However, in the meantime, they remind players that these 3 things are prohibited (via X.com):
- The use, distribution, or creation of unauthorized programs is strictly prohibited.
- Do not go AFK during cooperative play. If you need to step away, please do so only in Albion!
- Please refrain from AFK farming during missions.
While no specific penalties for violating these rules are mentioned, it is implied that suspensions, up to and including permanent bans, await players who offend.
The First Descendant is specifically addressing the problem of “loot lurking,” which we reported on today at MeinMMO on July 16.
Because the behavior of taking loot without contributing to the success of the team has caused frustration in the community. Consequences from Nexon were demanded. The Twitter post from Nexon can be interpreted as a reaction to this demand: The First Descendant has a problem with freeloaders who just want to grab loot
