In a MeinMMO survey, we wanted to know from you: What do you think of The Division 2 shortly after launch? Many of you participated in the user test and gave an initial rating and your opinion.
This is how The Division 2 stands currently: The launch of The Division 2 was about 2 weeks ago. Many representatives of the specialist press have used this time to write reviews and distribute ratings.
Currently (March 28), Ubisoft’s shared-world shooter is doing quite well on Metacritic. It has a rating of 80 (out of a maximum of 100) or higher across all platforms. The Division 2 seems to be well received by the testers.
However, in the last few days we have asked the true Division experts – namely the MeinMMO readers – in a user test how they find the game shortly after launch. And many of you have responded diligently.

These aspects are well received by you
Here are the highlights that you noticed particularly positively in the first days and weeks after the release.
The Division 2 is a strong sequel
This is praised: Already in the months before release, the developers emphasized repeatedly that they had learned from the mistakes of The Division 1. All the feedback they collected from the community and used to continuously improve the first part is also flowing into the second part.
And these were not empty words. The Division 2 launched with several important features that were long or unsuccessfully awaited in part 1, such as dedicated PvP modes, loadouts, or a clan system. Moreover, the game had a surprisingly strong start for a “game as a service” – which is largely due to the developers’ experience.
Our readers write:
The Division 2 is exactly what I expected. A significant improvement in all aspects compared to its predecessor, and that one was already good at the end. Almost everything has been improved.
Mr.Mittens
Or:
I see a solid continuation of the things that were added to part 1 over the years. I enjoy it, what more could I want? Long-term motivation is sufficiently present.

Or:
8.5/10 – Formulated concisely because it is by far the most rounded MMO of the last few years.
N811 Rouge
The good launch is also praised:
They learned from the mistakes of the predecessor, which is the absolute most positive point for me. It was an disproportionately clean server start.
Stöpsel76
A somewhat more critical voice:
I voted 7/10. It’s exactly the sequel I expected, neither more nor less.
huhu_2345
Meaningful innovations and lessons learned from part 1, but surprises are lacking for me.

The setting is surprisingly well received
This is praised: Although many players initially viewed the summery setting in Washington D.C. critically, they now like the open world better than expected.
This setting is extremely detailed. There is something to discover in every corner. Some collectibles even reveal more about the background story and allow for a deeper immersion into the world.
The ability to move through the entire world without loading screens further enhances immersion. With dynamic weather, beautiful lighting conditions, and a lively world where animals and nature reclaim Washington D.C., Massive has created an impressive atmosphere that is often praised.

Our readers write:
For me, TD 2 is a clear 10/10 right now (level 22). […]
Psycheater
I am particularly fascinated by the environmental storytelling; the setting is simply amazing and the immersion is really great.
Or:
I voted 8 points. I think the game offers a coherent, vibrant world. And you have an open-world feel without constant loading screens.
Cryptic Dawn
Or:
I find the atmosphere positive! Apocalypse, plague, and the real beast, man!
Julian Markut
Our reader Mayoo wrote a detailed opinion in which he praised several aspects of the setting. Positive points include:
– Weather (a fight at dawn with fog and rain, unbelievably good) […]
– The music that plays when a fight begins or when you approach an enemy-controlled zone. Simply good.

The AI enemies are quite intelligent
This is praised: In The Division 2, enemies do not run wildly at you (at least not all of them); instead, they act tactically, stay in cover, and flank you.
This realistic AI has not only been praised numerous times in the Division Reddit but also by MeinMMO readers:
[…] Massive has also worked on enemy AI, and you are now often flanked, for example. Moreover, I really think it’s great that there are completely new enemy types and factions. And that the hunters are back, is really great; I like fighting against them.
Psycheater
Or:
[…] I also think it’s good how NPCs behave and communicate with each other […]
Stöpsel76

Gameplay and loot are convincing
This is praised: Most players are satisfied with the gameplay. It feels good to hold the weapons in hand. The controls are generally okay. Only a few criticize that the weapon sound is not well done or lacks the “bang” of the guns.
So it is said:
I find the gameplay appealing overall. [There is] a ton of loot, which is both positive and negative at the same time because you constantly have to clean out your inventory. […] But a lot of loot also means many opportunities to refine your equipment and optimize yourself.
Mayoo
Or:
So far, I find The Division 2 incredibly good. The shootouts that occur in tight spaces when certain abilities are active are just spectacularly staged. Really an amazing technique, and I’m still playing on the normal PlayStation. It is challenging, motivating, and packed with content. […]
MacNukem
It’s great that it feels like playing alone and with mates are like two different games.
Or:
Great feeling, team play is endlessly fun, whether tactical or like Rambo.
Karsten Maruschke
This team play aspect is also addressed by Axel Kleps in his detailed user review that he published on MeinMMO. He writes about it:
The now built-in clan mode makes the game even more attractive for all who want to play with buddies and not just with random acquaintances who each do their own thing.
Axel Kleps
Fun skirmishes in the 4v4 conflict mode are thus possible […]
However, there are also critical voices here:
The gameplay is simply not for me. Overall, it somehow lacks impact. It is fundamentally solid but also somehow nothing really special.

These aspects are criticized by you
Here, Massive still has some improvements to make.
Bugs and annoying mods
This is criticized: The Division 2 is mostly praised, but some teething problems also cause frustrating moments. Especially in the first days after launch, the skill bug drove many players crazy, causing skills to self-destruct immediately after activation. Massive was able to push a fix in a timely manner.
Many players are also unhappy with the weapon mods. While they offer tempting bonuses, they also come with significant disadvantages. The disadvantages are often so great that players have no desire to equip the mods. Players demand that Massive reworks the mod design.
Several readers, such as Mayoo, Psycheater, Persu Berlin, or Alex, point out these teething issues like the skill bug.
The mods are also mentioned more frequently, such as here:
I have only a few criticisms so far. For example, I’m not a fan of how the mods now work. I liked the old system better. It is also a pity that food items for buffing have been removed, and special ammunition can now only be collected for direct use from crates. This makes it less tactical than in the predecessor.
Mr.Mittens

Graphics weaknesses on consoles
This is criticized: The Division 2 actually has outstanding graphics – if you can see them on consoles. Often, the game takes several seconds to load all textures.
Especially after fast travel, you feel like you are in a pixel world. Only after a while are texts readable and textures displayed in detail. The graphic performance on consoles could definitely be improved.
I’m more than satisfied so far, but what bothers me a bit is the technical aspect, especially the texture loading. On my Xbox, it stands out quite a bit… but it seems to be a console problem. I hope Massive patches this, then it would be almost a perfect game for me.

The main point of criticism is the shallow story
This is criticized: This point of criticism was particularly frequently read in the specialist press – the campaign lacks depth or interesting characters with personality. While the missions are designed diversely, the surrounding story does not captivate anyone.
In a loot shooter like The Division 2, the game only truly starts in the endgame when the campaign is finished – yet the main story could have been cooler.
Of course, there are also points of criticism. These include the relatively shallow main story. Well, the story itself is just a means to an end.
Stöpsel76
Or:
However, the story is quite shallow; TD1 had more to offer with Aaron Keener and co. There is constant warning about the ominous DC-62, but the world does not seem particularly threatening despite all that. Almost everywhere, you are moving without filter. I find that quite a pity. TD1 also deployed tougher weapons. Playing Metro Exodus highlights the contrast and the wasted potential even more.

The rating from MeinMMO readers
This is how you rate The Division 2: On a rating scale from 1 (very bad) to 10 (very good), over 2200 MeinMMO readers have given an early rating. A solid 80% have rated it 8 or higher:
- 30% gave a rating of 9
- 25% gave a rating of 8
- 24% gave the top rating of 10
Only a few readers gave average ratings, while nearly 10% voted for the low ratings of 1 or 2. There are no explanations for these poor ratings in the comments.
- Therefore, the average rating of the MeinMMO survey is 7.9
We will likely conduct another user test like this in a few months. Then we will see if and how the mood around The Division 2 changes when the complete endgame and the raid have been extensively played.
