One Piece is an anime full of pirates. An actor embodying the most famous modern pirate has now received a brilliant gift from the creator of the pirate manga.
What was that situation like? Johnny Depp was a guest at the Tokyo Comic Convention 2025. He stood on stage with Hiroaki Hirata. The Japanese voice actor not only voices Sanji from One Piece but also every role played by Johnny Depp.
He suddenly announces that he wants to present a gift. With his words, it becomes clear that he is presenting a gift from Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece:
I have a good friend who draws a certain manga about pirates.
Shortly thereafter, he arrives with a small attention, where Oda drew a pirate for the first time in his life, embodied by a real person.

What kind of gift is that? Hirata presents a blue noren curtain, traditionally used in Japan. He explains that such a curtain would be hung by an artist in front of their dressing room. Painted in white is a version of Jack Sparrow, the protagonist from Pirates of the Caribbean, as portrayed by Johnny Depp.
However, the Jack Sparrow is drawn in a style that could make him appear in One Piece. He wears his distinctive bandana and holds his pistol in hand.
How does Depp react? Johnny Depp says he would prefer to wrap himself in it and steps behind the curtain. The hosts have to ask him to step back in front of the curtain. After that, Depp moves away from his gift, and the hosts again have to ask him to step in front of the curtain to take a photo.
