Silco is one of the most important characters in the series Arcane, but he has not been part of League of Legends yet. That is set to change in February 2022. However, you will not be able to play him in the MOBA just yet.
Where will Silco be released? The villain from Arcane will be the first champion in the auto battler Teamfight Tactics that was not previously playable in LoL.
He will be released with the upcoming Set 6.5, which is expected to launch in February 2022. There is currently no exact release date.
Silco is expected to play an important role as the leader of his attribute in the set, similar to his role in the series. Riot Games announced this on their Korean website (via lol.kr). It is very likely that he will be given the origin “Zhaun” and will fight alongside other champions from the region.
The blog post mostly talks about how much fun the developers had designing their first original skeleton for TFT instead of relying on a finished one from LoL.
What is so special about Silco? Silco is one of many characters in Arcane and plays perhaps the largest role in the series alongside Vi and Jinx. Even though he resorts to brutal means and appears to be a shady underworld boss, one develops a certain sympathy for him throughout the series.
This is because his actual goal is not the destruction of Piltover, but the independence of his own region, Zhaun. Additionally, he takes on a fatherly role throughout the series, for which he is even willing to discard his dreams.
Cortyn from MeinMMO even referred to Silco in her conclusion about the series as the true main character:
TFT is regularly expanded, getting its first champions that are not from LoL
What is Teamfight Tactics anyway? TFT is a turn-based strategy game where 8 players compete against each other. Each round, you receive gold and can use it to purchase champions to place on the game board. Afterwards, your figures automatically fight against the figures of one of the other players.
Over time, more and more gold accumulates, which you can spend on stronger champions or level-ups. The higher your level, the more figures can fit on the game board. However, more gold is available the more gold you possess.
Each champion has different attributes that provide bonuses when you have enough champions with the same attribute on the field. Also, three identical champions can always be combined into a stronger one. Additionally, there are items for the champions that you can obtain in special PvE rounds and in the carousel.
The tactical components are therefore finding the right team combos, upgrading the champions, the correct use of the items, the right gold management, and finally also the correct placement on the field.
There are now even official tournaments surrounding TFT, organized by Riot Games and with substantial prize money. If you want to watch a match, here is a game from Lead Designer Mortdog:
How can I play TFT? TFT can be easily selected as a game mode in the LoL client or played in a standalone version on Android or iOS.
