The universe of The Boys offers more than one can see in the series. Its arguably worst team has yet to make an appearance. But that’s no surprise when you look at how malicious the story behind it is.
Which team is it about? The Supes in The Boys are mostly parodies of well-known superheroes from Marvel or DC. For instance, Soldier Boy is a nod to Captain America. Some of the Supes from the comics do not appear in the Amazon series at all.
Among them is a whole group: The G-Men. As the name suggests, the group is a parody of the X-Men from Marvel. They are even the most successful group of Vought, but behind them hides a cruel cult that is likely too evil even for the series.
The nasty parody of the X-Men
Who are the G-Men? In the comics, the G-Men are a group from Vought, consisting of several teams. At the top is John Godolkin, who represents the equivalent of Professor X in Marvel. Outwardly, he is portrayed as a kind father figure who takes care of orphans and outcasts. This is also why the G-Men are so profitable as a franchise for Vought. Even the Seven of Homelander do not bring in as much money as the G-Men. This also gives them a lot of freedom within the company.
However, as one knows from The Boys, a much more insidious thought lies behind it. Godolkin is not a kind man but the leader of a sex cult that kidnaps children and infects them with Compound V. Through abuse and manipulation, he controls his group.
Godolkin has the urge to increase the number of the group with more and more members. If a member dies, he brings them back with a resurrection technique that turns the Supes into mindless slaves. This happened, for example, with the Supe Nubia, who is a parody of the heroine Storm.
The first 5 members are based on 5 of the most legendary mutants of the X-Men:
- Five-Oh is based on Cyclops and can shoot lasers.
- Silver Kincaid is based on Jean Grey/Phoenix and has telekinetic abilities that allow her to manipulate pressure.
- Nubia is based on Storm and can manipulate thunder.
- Groundhawk is the parody of Wolverine, who has entire arms made of hammerheads instead of claws.
- The Devine is based on Angel and can fly and has telepathic powers.
- Critter is a parody of Beast and looks like Bigfoot with long fur. He seems to have an administrative role in the G-Men.
Even though the G-Men were quite lucrative for Vought, they were still a problem for the company’s leadership, as Godolkin’s obsession and their cult secret posed a threat. That’s when Butcher with his team came in handy.
The Boys took care of the G-Men
What did Butcher and his crew do with the G-Men? After Silver Kincaid committed suicide, Butcher and the group investigated. To learn more about the G-Men, they infiltrated Hughie, who disguised himself as a new recruit Bagpipe
in the sub-group G-Wiz. There, Hughie discovered how bad things really are behind the scenes and how wealthy the G-Men actually are.
Although Godolkin is warned by Vought and Critter not to let the group grow further, he ignores it. On the other hand, Hughie, who continues to investigate undercover despite Butcher’s orders, believes that the G-Wiz are peaceful.
However, after Hughie is uncovered and still attacked by the G-Wiz, the others come to his aid, thanks to temporary Compound V powers. But before a real fight against all the other G-Men could take place, Vought seized the opportunity and attacked Godolkin and his team with an army and completely eliminated them.
Will the G-Men appear in the Amazon series? It is quite unlikely that the G-Men as a group will be introduced. The G-Men also seem to exist in the Amazon series, as it is known that there are films about them. Whether they are just actors or a real Supe group remains unclear.
Godolkin as a character was adapted in the spin-off series Gen V. There, Thomas Godolkin founded a Supe university to select the best superheroes and create a superior form of human. In the end of the 2nd season of Gen V, however, he is killed by Marie Moreau. Even if the G-Men probably won’t make it to the finale of the Amazon series, there will likely be another cult: Against a new Supe in The Boys, even Homelander seems like a nice guy
