Not heavier than Malenia – That stuck in my mind when I faced the many bosses in the new DLC of Elden Ring. My summary? Hidetaka Miyazaki has overdone it again and throws his tarnished into ruthless doom. I must say, though, I have never had so much fun losing.
The Elden Ring DLC “Shadow of the Erdtree” launches in Germany on June 21 at midnight. All Souls fans are eagerly waiting to be defeated again. While many are looking forward to the new area of the Shadowlands, the bosses are one of the most important things that will keep players occupied for a long time.
I was allowed to test the DLC before its release and defeat every boss. I have played every Souls game from Demon Souls to Elden Ring from FromSoftware and know many iconic bosses from the individual parts – but what I saw in the Elden Ring DLC tops everything.
Boss battles will leave you speechless
It is already circulating in the communities on Reddit that the head of Elden Ring, Hidetaka Miyazaki, often promises much less, only to surprise his fans later.
In many interviews regarding the new bosses, the head talked about how they are oriented to the difficulty of the second half of the base game. Examples include Rykard, Maliketh, Radagon, and the Elden Beast.
As for the optional bosses, they are supposed to be like Malenia but not equally difficult. The head clarified that there will not be a second Malenia in this way. When I finished the DLC, I must say that was a bold-faced lie – but a lie I enjoyed.
In total, there are supposed to be 10 bosses, many of which are important for progress in reaching the end. Each of the bosses occupied me for a long time. The easiest took 2-3 hours, while the hardest tortured me for days. However, what most bosses had in common were their powerful impressions they left on me.
If you think the bosses only have one phase, you are mistaken. Often the mood changed abruptly and in numerous moments, I felt like an Armageddon was breaking out. I would stand there motionless for minutes, die, and first had to realize what my eyes just saw.
If I had to draw comparisons to boss fights from past Souls games for their epic portrayal, then the fight against Slave Knight Gael, Black Dragon Kalameet, and the Nameless King would be fitting candidates – provided you make them 10 times harder. For my part, I enjoyed losing and already know that you will definitely get stuck the longest on two upcoming bosses.
Which ones they are, you will find out for yourself on June 21 at midnight. Until then, what are you looking forward to the most in the upcoming DLC?
