ArcheAge Chronicles
Developer: XL Games | Platform: PC, PS5 and Xbox Series | Release Period for the West: Q3 2026 | Payment Model: Unclear | Status: final development phase and focus tests | Chance of success in the West: 60%—the plans sound great, but very little has been shown so far
In November 2024, there was an announcement from publisher Kakao Games that the release of ArcheAge Chronicles will be postponed from 2025 to 2026. In the summer of 2025, they then stated that development was complete and that they would primarily work on improvements and optimizations.
Like Aion 2 and Chrono Odyssey, the successor to the popular sandbox MMORPG ArcheAge is also aimed more at a global audience. The focus is on PvE content for small groups, exploration of the game world, and an exciting story experience.
What reminds one of the first ArcheAge is primarily the setting, although the known regions have reportedly changed noticeably due to the time difference. From what was once a shining fortress, there may now be a ruin. However, the developers also promise a reunion with factions, storylines, and characters from the first part.
As for the old sandbox gameplay: important pillars such as trade, crafting, housing, and trade voyages will return but have been redesigned to better support the focus of Chronicles on solo progress, smoother entry, and player freedom. The new housing system is said to have its own story and an additional progression system.
ArcheAge Chronicles also implements a flexible role system that allows you to experiment and adapt to the needs of your group or your solo adventures. The holy trinity of tank, healer, and damage dealer is still present. Combat is action-packed; active dodging, blocking, and parrying are essential.
The developers have not officially decided on a payment model yet. However, they want to avoid pay-to-win elements at all costs. They have seen the mistakes made by many other games and how they negatively impacted the player experience. They want to learn from this.
