In the coming years, 5 MMORPGs are set to be interesting for fans of the genre. We introduce them to you in the new episode of the MeinMMO Podcast.
After several releases in the past years, things are a bit quieter on the MMORPG front in 2022. Games like Swords of Legends Online, Elyon, and New World have failed, but the next MMO games are already pushing in to take their place. This includes indie MMOs funded through Kickstarter, and MMORPGs from well-known developers like ArenaNet.
- Ashes of Creation is a sandbox MMO by millionaire Steven Sharif. The idea for the game arose because he played the MMORPG ArcheAge but wanted something better. The MMO brings innovative ideas and focuses on user-generated content.
- Crimson Desert is the successor to the Korean MMORPG Black Desert Online. In contrast to its predecessor, the focus of the game is on the story and the campaign. Players will be able to play Crimson Desert solo or in multiplayer mode ‘Another Story’.
- Star Citizen is a space MMO set in a sci-fi universe that has been in development for many years. It has raised about 500 million dollars on Kickstarter. Players take on the role of a pilot exploring a vast universe. A variety of spaceships of different types can already be purchased.
- Project TL, which has now been renamed to Throne and Liberty, has had a long and bumpy development process. Originally, it was supposed to be an action MMORPG in the style of Lineage for PC and mobile. However, the project was revamped into a classic action RPG like Blade & Soul or Black Desert.
- After many rumors, Riot Games confirmed some time ago that the company is indeed working on its own MMORPG. The setting is in the universe of “League of Legends”, Runeterra. Accordingly, champions from LoL will also appear there. However, there isn’t much information yet about the gameplay and other contents.
