The PvP in Shadowkeep
What has changed in PvP: The Shadowkeep expansion has ushered in the third year of Destiny 2. In addition to numerous PvE content, the PvP has also been tweaked. A crucial role in these changes is played by your Guardian’s super.
Prior to Shadowkeep, the supers were almost like a tank. The powerful ability could be activated safely, often even in the middle of the fray. Unfazed, players would unleash their abilities. This was due to the high damage reduction during the super.
Currently, this damage reduction has been significantly reduced. Your super is still one of the most powerful weapons, but it now needs to be used thoughtfully. Previously, supers could easily resist headshots from snipers. This has changed somewhat and has moved in the direction of Destiny 1 – where, if you hit the head, everything falls down.
In the following video, Fallout Plays examines how the changes to supers affect sniper rifles.
What snipers need in the Crucible: To play among the greats, snipers need to excel in these aspects in PvP:
- The aim assist – This value determines how strong the bullet magnetism towards the opponent and the ‘stickiness’ of the crosshair is. The stat affects consoles more than PCs.
- The range – This value determines how far the aim assist works for sniper rifles. It also affects how precise the weapon is overall and influences the hitbox (hit zone).
- The handling – The higher the handling, the faster you can aim through the scope and prepare or switch the weapon.
- A good scope – The scope is crucial for success and feeling in the Crucible. As a rule of thumb, the lower the zoom, the better.
- Can my equipped sniper one-shot a super – that is, defeat with just one shot?
- The perks – You have a choice among dozens of perks. Some are significantly better suited for PvP than others. Some specific perks can even only appear on certain sniper rifles.
On the following pages, we review five of the currently best sniper rifles. All mentioned snipers on the list require special ammo.
Starting off is a fan-favorite that connects to the memories of Destiny veterans and made an opulent comeback.
