LoL player Maria “Remilia” Creveling was the first woman to compete in the US league of League of Legends, LCS. Remilia was regarded as an outstanding support player in 2016 but left her team after only one month. She passed away in Las Vegas at the age of 24 on Friday.
Who was Remilia? The player entered the LoL scene in 2013 with Season 3, starting as a support player for Curse Academy. She bounced around several teams until she landed in 2015 with the Misfits team, which later became Team “Renegades”.
Here, Remilia made a name for herself as a top player of the support champions Thresh and Morgana.
The Renegades won the NACS Summer Playoffs, securing a spot in the North American professional league LCS. When the Renegades played their first match, Remilia became the first woman to compete in the LCS. The Renegades were able to start the 2016 Spring Season of the LCS with a win against Team Liquid. However, a losing streak followed.
As Associated Press reports, Maria “Remilia” Creveling, as the only woman and transgender woman in the LCS, was in a prominent position. She faced criticism from fans in the comment sections.
Remilia decided to leave the team after a month. She cited anxiety, stress, and self-confidence issues as her reasons for leaving.
In 2017, she played for LoL teams in South America and the United States but ultimately ended her professional career to become a Twitch streamer. She had since gained 94,357 followers and was primarily playing Teamfight Tactics. However, she also participated in the LoL tournament Twitch Rivals – she was on imaqtpie’s team.
This is known about her death: Esports journalist Richard Lewis announced on Twitter on Saturday that his best friend Maria Creveling passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday.
He says Maria would not have wanted any grand eulogies at her death. She never wanted to be in the spotlight. Her absence will leave a void that can never be filled.
As ESPN reports, Lewis was Remilia’s roommate in Las Vegas.
Remilia’s friend also spoke out. He says she would not have wanted a lengthy statement. He just wants to say that the 4 months since they met were the best in both their lives. Maria deserved so much more.
