Rank 5: Obi-Wan Kenobi
Obi-Wan Kenobi also falls into the category of “stronger than one would initially assume.” The Jedi usually behaves unobtrusively and reservedly. However, when he faces his opponents in battle and ignites his lightsaber, it quickly becomes clear how powerful he is with the blade.
Obi-Wan uses Form 3 (Soresu), a technique primarily designed for defense. With it, the Jedi can deflect attacks in a way that costs him as little energy as possible. The goal is for the opponent to expend their energy while Obi-Wan remains steadfast – to then strike back at the right moment.
Hardly any duel illustrates this as well as the one against Anakin at the end of Episode 3. Obi-Wan skillfully counters his friend’s attacks, thus managing to defeat him. What Obi-Wan has over Anakin is his patience, focus, and composure, which prevents the rage-driven Skywalker from being even better. Consequently, Obi-Wan can look back on quite a notable list of defeated enemies. Among them, he has defeated Darth Maul multiple times and finally dealt with General Grievous.
