The Canary Islands are not only an ideal destination for families and sun lovers, but also for players of Pokémon GO. They are indeed a paradise for regional Pokémon.
What is there on the Canary Islands? For Pokémon GO players, there is a bunch of new Pokémon here, as a total of 9 monsters await you, which you cannot catch here in Germany.
This means that the Canary Islands are quite unique. Hardly any region in the world has as many different monsters that you cannot get in Germany.
You can find the overview of all regional Pokémon and where to catch them here.
Why the Canary Islands are a Pokémon paradise?
Here’s the explanation: The Canaries are counted by Niantic as part of Africa. So, if you can catch a Pokémon regionally in Europe, then the Canary Islands no longer count. Pantimos is not available there, even though the island group belongs to Europe and Pantimos spawns exclusively in Europe.
For that reason, there are numerous other Pokémon on the Canary Islands that do not exist in Europe. In addition to Africa, the Canaries also belong to the Western Hemisphere, which is why more regional Pokémon spawn here.
These Pokémon you can catch on the Canary Islands: You can find 9 regional Pokémon there that do not exist here. They spawn there:
- Corasonn
- Tropius
- Illumise
- Sonnfel
- Vipitis
- Western Schalellos (pink)
- Furnifraß
- Jiutesto
- Western Barschuft (blue)
With the latest wave of the 5th generation, two of these regional Pokémon have been added.
Here’s why a trip is worthwhile: The Canary Islands are not far from Germany. Other important vacation spots for Pokémon lovers can be found in Australia or the USA, but for that, you have to travel much further.
So, if you still don’t know where to go on your next trip, consider the Canary Islands. Besides the regional Pokémon, high temperatures and countless beaches await you there.
This is also different on the Canary Islands: While we often have a city or forest biome here in Germany, there are either water or desert biomes there. The spawns are therefore quite different.
Here you will find many fire and ground Pokémon that are often difficult to find in Germany. You have good chances of encountering shinies of Sandan, Fukano or Digda, which are mainly found here during events.
An overview of all available shinies can be found here:
