TERA pulls out the mop and goes after all addons. There are no exceptions – no Damage Meter either.
In many MMORPGs, players can enhance their experience with additional software. Games like WildStar or WoW even offer support for addons. Other players don’t make it so easy, but the developers overlook the use of such software as long as it doesn’t lead to unfair advantages or harm.
It was similar until now with TERA under En Masse, the North American publisher of the action MMO: Many players used third-party programs to display DPS numbers in a dungeon or otherwise enhance the gaming experience. But that is now coming to an end.
In the official forum, it was announced on April 26 that the use of third-party programs that interact with the TERA client must be stopped immediately. Anyone who violates this rule will be permanently banned from the game.
Some players have already been permanently banned.
This quickly led to an outcry from the community, as many players can no longer imagine a world without addons. They do not understand why all players and programs are now in the spotlight when there are only a few bad apples using hacks and causing problems.
No mercy for any addon
En Masse claims that it is already stated in the terms of service that any use of third-party software, regardless of the purpose, constitutes a violation of the agreement. They will now enforce this more strictly, as there have been increasing problems in recent months.
There will be no exceptions for individual addons.
“Every program and modification to the TERA client is a violation of the terms of service. There will be no exceptions. If you think, ‘But what about XXXXX? Is that okay?’ The answer is: ‘No. It’s not.’ and you should expect consequences.”
First ban wave hits “severe exploiters”
The US site MMOBomb reported that En Masse confirmed that in the first ban wave, “fewer than a dozen players” have already been permanently banned. They had used programs that directly harmed other players. None of them have appealed the ban.
They decided to implement and enforce a ban on all addons because in recent months, the extent and frequency of this behavior have increased among a small percentage of players.
