The Auto Battler Teamfight Tactics relies more on the item system than its competitors. It is important to build the right items to win a game. We will reveal to you which items and item combinations are top tier in Teamfight Tactics and which ones you should rather neglect.
What kind of tier list is this? This list is meant to give you an overview of which items you should look out for in the carousel.
At the same time, we will also reveal to you which combined items are the strongest. If you want to learn about combining items, you can find all the important information in the cheat sheet.
The list is based on personal experiences and the tier list from Mobalytics. We have updated it for the new patch 9.16. Here we also reveal more about the best champion comps in the new patch.
The best items in the carousel
Which items should I choose in the carousel? Those who have dived deep into Teamfight Tactics will know that in the carousel one primarily looks for items and not champions (unless you can upgrade a rare champion).
That’s why we will reveal to you which items you definitely should choose in the carousel.
The best items in the first carousel rounds:
- Recurve Bow
- Spatula
- Tear of the Goddess
- Giant’s Staff
The Recurve Bow is so good because attack speed plays an important role. Additionally, it can be combined into many good items.
Spatula is especially important for the Nature’s Force, allowing you to bring another champion onto the field. Furthermore, since patch 9.16, some items grant additional origins or classes.
Tear of the Goddess and Giant’s Staff are selected based on champions, but they also offer many good combination options.
Additionally, available selections include: 4 items that you should rather leave to others:
- Giant’s Belt
- Giant’s Sword
- Chain Vest
- Negatron Cloak
What do I choose in later carousel rounds? In the later stages, rarer champions and sometimes fully upgraded items are also offered.
However, the four mentioned above remain the items of your choice if nothing better is offered to you.
The best item combinations in Teamfight Tactics
In the next block, we want to present to you the best items that you can create from the eight basic items, the best item combinations out of two items each. These have been arranged into four tier levels.
S Tier – Always good
- Dragon’s Claw (Negatron Cloak + Negatron Cloak)
- Guinsoo’s Rageblade (Recurve Bow + Giant’s Staff)
- Morellonomicon (Giant’s Staff + Giant’s Belt)
- Nature’s Force (Spatula + Spatula)
- Rapid Firecannon (Recurve Bow + Recurve Bow)
- Static Shiv (Recurve Bow + Tear of the Goddess)
The Nature’s Force is always strong as it allows you to field an additional champion.
Guinsoo’s Rageblade, Static Shiv, and Rapid Firecannon are two weapons that significantly increase attack speed. This benefits carries like Draven and Jinx, as well as all classes that require mana and generally want to attack quickly.
Morellonomicon is a good item for characters that can hit multiple targets with their abilities. This includes Kennen, Garen with his spin-to-win, Lucian, or Anivia.
The Dragon’s Claw is very solid when you expect wizards on the opponent’s side.
A Tier – Very good
- Bloodthirster (Giant’s Sword + Negatron Cloak)
- Frozen Heart (Tear of the Goddess + Chain Vest)
- Hextech Gunblade (Giant’s Sword + Giant’s Staff)
- Ionian Spark (Giant’s Staff + Negatron Cloak)
- Blade of the Ruined King (Recurve Bow + Spatula)
- Infinity Edge (Giant’s Sword + Giant’s Sword)
- Luden’s Echo (Giant’s Staff + Tear of the Goddess)
- Phantom Dancer (Recurve Bow + Chain Vest)
- Rabadon’s Deathcap (Giant’s Staff + Giant’s Staff)
- Red Buff (Chain Vest + Giant’s Belt)
- Runaan’s Hurricane (Negatron Cloak + Spatula)
- Guardian Angel (Giant’s Sword + Chain Vest)
- Spear of Shojin (Giant’s Sword + Tear of the Goddess)
- Silence (Tear of the Goddess + Negatron Cloak)
- Seraph’s Embrace (Tear of the Goddess + Tear of the Goddess)
- Warmog’s Armor (Giant’s Belt + Giant’s Belt)
- Yuumi (Giant’s Staff + Spatula)
In Teamfight Tactics, much revolves around attack speed. Accordingly, Frozen Heart is excellent for slowing down opponents. On the other hand, quickly attacking champions also benefit from damage and lifesteal. For these reasons, you will find Bloodthirster or Infinity Edge here.
Two spatula items have also made it to A-tier. In the current meta, you can turn Jinx or other champions into blade masters so that they can benefit from the buff.
Also, for the 9-blade master combo, the Blade of the Ruined King is needed. Yuumi is also an addition if you want to have six spell masters but only five on the field.
Otherwise, many very solid items can be found on the list, such as Luden’s Echo, Ionian Spark, Phantom Dancer, or Red Buff, which can be built on various champions and perform well.
B Tier – Okay
- Iron Solari Amulet (Giant’s Staff + Chain Vest)
- Strike Back (Tear of the Goddess + Giant’s Belt)
- Thornmail (Chain Vest + Chain Vest)
- Knight’s Oath (Chain Vest + Spatula)
- Divine Sword (Giant’s Sword + Recurve Bow)
- Bladebreaker (Chain Vest + Negatron Cloak)
- Titanic Hydra (Recurve Bow + Giant’s Belt)
- Cursed Blade (Recurve Bow + Negatron Cloak)
- Zeke’s Herald (Giant’s Sword + Giant’s Belt)
- Zephyr (Negatron Cloak + Giant’s Belt)
B tier includes many currently weak items. They are all useful but not overly strong.
Here we want to highlight Titanic Hydra, which works excellently with area damage when combined with transformations from Gnar, Nidalee, or Shyvana.
Sadly, the positions of Iron Solari Amulet and Zeke’s Herald are no longer as strong as they used to be after the changes in positioning.
C Tier – Nearly useless
- Dread (Tear of the Goddess + Spatula)
- Youmuu’s Ghostblade (Giant’s Sword + Spatula)
- Frosthammer (Spatula + Giant’s Belt)
The items from C-tier are difficult. They are actually useless and should not be built. However, there are special exceptions where the three spatula items fill a specific combo.
This can be the Frosthammer being the sixth ice creature because Anivia does not want to show up at all. In that case, one might consider building one of the three items.
