Trolls in Valorant are currently attempting to unsettle their opponents and even force them to surrender with fake messages. A whole team has fallen for such a fake and is now facing losses in Ranked.
What kind of message is this? Apparently, trolls are currently sending messages in Valorant’s chat that look like they are coming from Riot itself. These messages say that there is a cheater in the round.
Players in the round are then asked to surrender. You will not receive any point deductions in Ranked, and the game will not be counted.
Recently, players have been reporting seeing such messages. The trolls use many spaces to make it look like an employee from Riot itself has written in the “All” chat.
This was the team’s mistake: As a player reported on reddit , his team fell for exactly this trick. In a round in Ranked mode of Valorant, they saw this message and reacted to it.
Because they didn’t want to play with a cheater, they decided to surrender. Contrary to what was promised in the message, they did indeed lose points. One from the round even reportedly dropped a rank – and climbing back up is currently problematic.
Riot makes it clear when cheaters are in the game
This was their mistake: The (albeit controversial) Anti-Cheat system from Riot, Vanguard, actually deals directly with cheaters. If there’s a cheating player in the round, Vanguard normally makes it unambiguously clear with a red screen and a warning:
Only this message with the red screen is indeed an indicator that a cheater is in the game and you can leave the game without having to expect sanctions.
The message that the trolls spread is also apparently flawed. A user on reddit pointed out that there are several errors in English grammar, such as a misplaced period or the reference to “Riot Vanguard” as an entity, which doesn’t make sense in this context.
For those who aren’t fluent in English, this can lead to uncertainties. Therefore, it’s important to note: Riot will never directly write in the chat this way. If you see such a message, simply ignore it and do not respond to it.
The Ranked system already has enough problems and no one to fix them. It would be even more unpleasant if you inadvertently damage your own stats by responding to trolls unknowingly.
