The reason is an eSports event with $100,000 featuring content creators like Disguised Toast, xQc, and the German Dhalucard.
What’s going on with Rust on Twitch?
- Rust is a survival MMO from 2013, and it usually doesn’t play a major role on Twitch.
- However, in January 2021, Rust suddenly became huge on Twitch, as streamers arranged to play together on a server. Some just wanted to roleplay peacefully, but mean raiders caused stress by randomly shooting people. Due to the many different streamers meeting on the server, a large event was created, and suddenly half the world was watching Rust.
- Even in Germany, there was an attempt to start a Rust project, but this was overshadowed by a sexism discussion in January 2021.

As a result, Rust has re-entered the top 10 most-watched games on Twitch, landing in 9th place. It has even surpassed World of Warcraft, which is now in 14th place.

Who is participating in the tournament? Twitch has been able to recruit some big streamers for the event:
The archvillain of Twitch, xQc, leads his own team and has among others, Trainwreckstv, one of the biggest gambling streamers on Twitch, along with Summitg, one of the veterans on Twitch in his team.
The strategy expert DisguisedToast leads the second team from North America. He has among others MrLLamaSC in his team, a fanatic Diablo player, and Symfuhny, a popular shooter gamer.
The German Twitch streamer Dhalucard is the team captain of one of the teams from Europe: He has Anomaly with him, a constantly masked streamer, who celebrated huge successes with “Valorant” in the summer of 2020 – plus Cowesep, a LoL strategist. Together with CaptainMyko, Repaz, and Sukidingels , he has more German-speaking streamers in the team.
The Spanish streamer Grefg leads the 4th team. He is one of the most successful streamers in the world and especially known for Fortnite, where he also has his own skin.
