The survival MMO Rend had big plans and ambitions. However, hardly anyone plays it on Steam anymore. What is going on with the game?
This is the current state of Rend: For some time now, Rend has hardly any players on Steam. According to Steamcharts , only 23 people have played Rend simultaneously in the last 24 hours at peak.
On average, only 7.1 people were online (as of November 15 at 11 AM).
Rend has been struggling for a while, as we reported back in March. After a long early access phase, Rend was officially released in March 2019. But the release apparently did not help.
The reviews on Steam are still “mixed” with 56% positive, but even the positive reviews already warn new players that the servers are dead and nobody is playing anymore:
It was an interesting concept and a somewhat new approach in the survival genre, but now the servers are dead and the real goal of the game is nearly unattainable. If only they would come back, fix the bugs, and keep the servers up, that would be cool.

The Goals of Rend
This is what Rend aimed for: Rend is based on many players playing simultaneously. There are three factions in which players come together and fight against the other factions for victory. Victors are rewarded with powerful items.
The focus is on PvP, but it is also important to build together with your faction at the shared base to repel enemies. Artifact weapons and sieges were meant to be major features.
The beautiful game world of Rend is based on Norse mythology and there is plenty of space for many players. These many players are also needed to really play the sandbox game – however, they are missing.
Survival MMO Rend – slowly left to die?
The developers remain silent: Since the launch in March 2019, there have been no updates from the developers Frostkeep. Neither on Steam, nor on the official website have there been any news or announcements about the game since March. They do not intend to bring new content anymore either.
Players have also noticed that the developers have completely withdrawn:
Beautiful game, but the developers have given up.

The official Twitter account of Rend has also only been retweeting the tweets from Frostkeep since then. The developers seem to be working on a completely new project (via MassivelyOP). The music of Rend was only recently nominated for “best video game music”:
What does the future hold? Since nothing has happened since March, it is unlikely that anything will happen in the near future. Some fans even hope that Frostkeep hands over Rend to another studio to take care of it.
The idea of Rend is unique and the game is really good, as you can read in detail in our first impression test. If the developers respond or other developers take over, Rend still has potential.
It even used to belong to our best survival games:
