The new game from Valve on Steam is currently in development and is accompanied by a testing phase. However, you can only play the MOBA shooter Deadlock if you are invited to do so by other players. The latest leaks from a streamer and Reddit users show that a public beta could soon become a reality.
Which streamer is involved? The streamer and YouTuber Deathy is a well-known creator in the Deadlock scene. Together with his colleague, YouTuber AverageJonas, he wanted to stream a tier list of all heroes in Deadlock. Deathy accidentally was in the client of a secret test version of the MOBA shooter, which is intended for creators and selected players. He quickly restarted the stream and deleted the recording.
What was leaked in the secret version? After the streamer opened the hero overview and wanted to create the tier list, the entire stream saw the names and images of 10 new heroes. Most have already a complete design, and only a few use a placeholder as a model. A screenshot of it was uploaded on Reddit.
Open beta could start as early as summer
Why could an open beta be possible soon? As early as spring 2025, there were leaks (via reddit.com) about an event in the summer of that same year. The Brazilian streamer “frttt” mentioned that Valve had already sent out invitations for this event.
Another leak (via reddit.com) that appeared a month later showed an image with the text “The Continental – Deadlock Championship” and the date “June 19”, which could indicate the approximate time frame of the event. Back in 2011, Valve launched the open beta of their MOBA hit DotA 2 with a tournament at Gamescom.
There are more leaks
What else has been leaked? After several posts from different players about various leaks, the Reddit user NEZIsAnIdiot compiled all current leaks about Deadlock in a Reddit post:
- The next big update is planned for summer (matches previous leaks about the event in summer)
- 10 completely new heroes, most of whom already have full designs
- New models for already playable heroes
- Gameplay overhaul of some heroes
- The item system is set to receive a slight overhaul
It is important to keep in mind that this information is merely rumors and the veracity is unknown.
What does the community say about the leaks? Many players in the Deadlock community are excited about the leaks. The map update was leaked a full two weeks before release in the Deadlock subreddit and turned out to be true.
The user NotRiceProfile summarized it well in a Reddit comment: “It’s crazy that Deadlock has become so popular that they are now developing a separate private alpha version for high-tier players and content creators. First, there was the leak about the three lanes, and now this. I wonder what else wild stuff they are trying out”
Another Reddit user named AdBackground6578 wrote the following on Reddit:
This has definitely revived all the hype for the rest of the year if it’s real. All the new character designs from the Hero Lab look too finished for something experimental. It doesn’t make it unbelievable, but it is strange.
By May 2025, there were only two major updates
In early January 2025, Valve developer Yoshi announced on the official Discord that updates would not be released as usual every two weeks, but irregularly. The updates are also supposed to be larger in scope.
However, by May 2025, the players of Deadlock had only received two of these major updates. The hero update in January, which added four new heroes to the current roster and the map update in February (via Steam). Since then, there have only been smaller balance patches.
Deadlock has a sufficient number of players, but it does not reach the hype of 2024, when over a hundred thousand players were online simultaneously.
