What’s the deal with CS:GO cases? In CS:GO, many players trade cosmetic weapon skins on digital marketplaces that can be obtained through so-called cases, i.e., loot boxes. Some items are so highly sought after that they are sold for extremely high sums.
The market surrounding CS:GO cases is currently booming. According to several analysis websites, the demand for loot boxes seems to be exploding right now.

The interest in skins in CS:GO seems to be huge right now
According to the analysis website CS:GO Case Tracker, around 39.5 million loot boxes were opened in March 2023. This is more than in any month since the site has existed (January 2022).
Especially compared to February 2023, when there were “only” 27.7 million opened cases, the number in the following month increased by more than 10 million units.
Dotesport.com reports over 100 million $ USD that players are said to have put into opening loot boxes within these 30 days. However, we have not yet been able to confirm this figure with the analysis websites.
Also, the marketplaces where players trade skins and cases are currently receiving a lot of visits. When looking at analyses of the CS:GO marketplace on Steam at CSGO-Skins.gg, an increasing interest can also be recognized.
But not only the markets surrounding CS:GO are currently very much in demand. The game itself recently broke its own player record.
The graphic on SteamDB shows the highest peak of players in CS:GO on March 16, 2023, with 1,519,457 people (as of April 17, 2023).
How did the rush for CS:GO loot boxes come about? The hype around CS:GO and the skins was probably fueled by the big upcoming update of Counter-Strike 2.
Especially since Valve has already announced on the official Counter-Strike 2 website that the players’ inventories will remain and all items from CS:GO will also be transferred to the update.
Because currently, the number of players in CS:GO is the highest it has ever been, this naturally also affects the skin trade. A larger player base means potentially more people opening loot boxes and trading skins.
