Some players of Bethesda’s RPG Starfield are upset because a child clone is ruining their immersion.
What is it with the child clones? In games, we encounter many different NPCs, not all of whom are significant to the storyline. Especially for insignificant NPCs, the same character models are often used, which repeat themselves within a certain scope in the game. This is the case in GTA 5, in Cyberpunk 2077, and also in Starfield.
However, in Bethesda’s latest RPG, this bothers some players on Reddit, because like many other NPCs, the models of the children also repeat themselves in Starfield. One of the children, whose face players encounter at every corner of the inhabited systems, is Sam’s daughter Cora.
Users describe the identical character models as “immersion-breaking.”
Why is Cora’s character model so bad? Sam is one of the main companions of the players and is introduced during the main story as a member of the Constellation.
Subsequently, Sam can accompany you as a crew member – and yes, he brings Cora with him, who then lives on your ship. Cora is thereby an almost equally important and permanently present member of your crew, just like Sam or Vasco. She is also a central part of Sam’s own story.
Thus, players are bothered that the appearance of a main character is also used for irrelevant NPCs. Just imagine encountering children in The Witcher 3 who look like Ciri.
It is further complicated by the fact that you can have a second child on your ship at the same time with Sona, who looks remarkably like Cora. Reddit user “Lurid-Jester” notes this and adds that the problem becomes harder to ignore (via Reddit).
With Annie Wilcox, you can meet another Cora clone in Akila City, one of the main locations in Starfield, who also brings her own dialogue lines.
Perhaps Bethesda should simply add the option to address all children in Starfield as Cora, followed by an apology for confusing them with Sam’s daughter.
