Starfield offers many weapons with different rarities for combat. The further you go, the rarer weapons you equip. But did you know that two of the strongest weapons in the game have a lousy rarity and you might have sold them? We show you the guns.
What kind of weapons are these? The weapons consist of a pistol and a rifle. Both weapons are from the Va’ruun faction, a cult that worships a celestial space snake. The weapons are called as follows:
- Va’ruun Starshard (Pistol)
- Normal rarity (white)
- Va’ruun Inflictor (Rifle)
- Normal rarity (white)
The interesting thing here is the rarity of the weapons. The rarer the rarity, the stronger the weapon should be – ideally. However, in the case of these guns, that is not true, as both weapons have a normal rarity and can still keep up with the strongest killing tools. We show you why.
Are you looking for a powerful weapon at the start? Then we have just the right thing for you:
Rarity does not match the weapon’s damage
Why are the weapons so strong? The pistol and the rifle deal two types of damage:
- Physical damage
- Energy damage
Weapons with two elements should share the damage to remain in line with other weapons of their kind. However, in this case, both weapons have separate damage types that do not share but complement each other.

In our example, which Paul Tassi obtained from the news site “Forbes”, the rifle has 111 physical damage and 329 energy damage. That amounts to a total of 440 damage you inflict.
That’s a lot when considering that this is a normal weapon. Typically, in this case, damage numbers would range from 1 to 100, depending on the difficulty from which you obtained them – 440, however, is exorbitant.
Where do I get the weapons? To obtain the weapons, you should eliminate Va’ruun enemies that are of high level. However, this is easier said than done, as they are very rare. Therefore, jump from system to system and explore space. Eventually, you will find a Va’ruun ship that you can raid.
Save before you eliminate the enemies on the ship so you can revert to your older save if the enemies did not drop the weapons. It is also worth increasing the difficulty, as that will get you better loot.
Starfield is not the first game with such powerful weapons: In the past, in games like Fallout 76, weapons have been a popular theme for Bethesda. They were either too weak or so powerful that one could take down tough bosses designed for multiple players solo. Mainly, the energy weapons were the culprits that often kept the team busy.
It could be that these weapons have not been perfectly balanced and thus have been thrown into the game as far too powerful.
Have you tested the weapons yet? If so, what do you think of them? Feel free to leave your experiences in the comments!
