In Starfield you can accumulate bounties either unknowingly or maliciously in various systems. We will show you how to get and get rid of bounties.
What are bounties? In Starfield, when you commit crimes, a bounty is issued against you. This is a specific sum that a faction has placed on your head.
Depending on how high your bounty is, the specific faction will either regard you as hostile and attack you immediately, or speak to you and, in the worst case, arrest or kill you.
Which crimes count? To receive a bounty, you must commit the following acts:
- Breaking and entering
- Theft or picking locks
- Hacking
- Injuring or killing civilians or faction members
Now that you know how to get a bounty, we will show you how to get rid of your bounty using three methods.
To defend yourself against guards, we have selected a powerful weapon for you:
How to get rid of your bounty
To clean your slate and no longer be wanted, you can use three methods:
1. Pay bounty to officials or factions
How do I do that? The easiest method to get rid of your punishment is to surrender when officials or faction members corner you.
Now you can settle your bounty with them and must also return any stolen items, if applicable. The only drawback of this method is that you lose the items you stole and must pay hard-earned credits.
2. Go to prison
How do I do that? If you are caught by guards and confronted, you have the option of either settling your debt or going to prison. In this method, you also have to hand over stolen items. In addition, you lose a certain amount of your XP, depending on how high your bounty is.
The positive aspect of this method, however, is that you don’t have to pay any credits and can walk out of the cell with fuller pockets.
3. Settle bounty at terminals
How do I do that? You have enough credits, but want to keep your stolen items and not lose any XP? Then look for one of the red self-service terminals that can settle your bounty. You can find these in various systems and cities.
The only two drawbacks are that you can only settle bounties from factions that are not in the same system and the fees for the service, if you take advantage of it. You also have to pay your bounty – the service is not free in Starfield.
There is one last method: If you prefer to solve your problem with cheats, you can use the console command: player.paycrimegold 0 0 <FACTION-ID> to clear the bounties of the factions. The following IDs may prove useful:
- Xenofresh Corporation – 0022892D
- United Colonies – 0005BD93
- Trade Authority – 0022E53D
- Ryujin Industries – 0026FDEA
- Red Mile – 002B209D
- House Va’ruun – 002758C5
- Freestar Rangers – 00096529
- Freestar Collective – 000638E5
- Crimson Fleet – 00010B30
