In June 2025, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will receive a new mode with Patch 8, which is already very well received by fans. In it, you can mow down entire hordes and even get a Dreadnought by your side.
What kind of mode is this? A large free update for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 is released with Patch 8 on June 26, 2025, which brings along not only a new mode but also several other innovations. In the new “Siege Mode,” you can team up with up to 3 players in large PvE battles against entire hordes to defend an imperial fortress.
The whole thing takes place on Kadaku and presents you with endless waves of Tyranids and Chaos to defeat, with only your death putting an end to them. If you play on PC, you can start in the mode on the official Public Test Server from June 4.
Additionally, two new DLCs in the form of new Chapters will be released simultaneously, bringing you White Scars and Blood Angels along with a bunch of cosmetics. The announcement is well-received by the community and triggers another hype – among other things, because you get a Dreadnought by your side.

“Is that a playable Dreadnought or am I hallucinating?”
What do fans say about the patch? The announcement of the new mode is well received on social media. Many players celebrate that this major update is free and not as a DLC that you have to pay for. Others are especially excited about the two new Chapters and the chaos that will face them in the new mode:

- Mountain-Peak-3063 writes via Reddit: “I really hope we can develop a mode just for Tyranids. Ideally, you could choose between Tyranid Siege, Chaos Siege, and a siege of both enemies.”

A Dreadnought for the players, but not quite as hoped
There are numerous voices on social media noting the Dreadnought and hoping for a playable version. However, Chief Creative Director Tim Willits had to dampen this hope in an interview with IGN, as players will not be able to control the Dreadnought.
Instead, you can call him in as reinforcement to fight alongside you against the hordes. He is Brother Valtus, the powerful Redemptor Dreadnought of the 2nd Company of the Ultramarines. However, he did not reveal whether there will be a playable version of a Dreadnought in the future.
Finally, the developers of Space Marine 2 gave players one of their most powerful tools to fully customize their gaming experience. With this, they fulfill a promise they made to the community from the very beginning: In Warhammer: Space Marine 2, you already play a bred superhuman, and modders can now create even crazier stuff
