How to get the portal? To unlock the Rainbow City portal, you need to do the following things:
- Open the secret level Whimsyshire
- Defeat the unicorn boss Nil
- Have luck that he drops the item “The Perfect Cupcake”
- Use the cupcake
You will then find the Rainbow portal in your wardrobe under your skins.
What is the drop chance? Quite low. Many players report attempts between 100 and 300 runs before they obtained the cupcake and could unlock the portal.
How do you get to Whimsyshire? You have several options:
- Item “Rainbow Water”
- You can either receive it as random loot in the world or as a guaranteed reward from stage 5 of the season rewards.
- Use the item and you will unlock access to the secret level.
- Treasure Goblins
- If you defeat Treasure Goblins, portals to Whimsyshire may appear with some luck.
- World bosses & Events
- If you defeat world bosses or complete events, Whimsyshire may randomly open up for you.
So you need some patience and luck if you want to open the level.
Where can I find the unicorn boss? When you are in Whimsyshire, you will find the required boss at the end of the map.
Do I have to open the portal again each time to farm the boss? Theoretically yes. Currently, there is also another option, which might be a bug that could be fixed soon. Here’s how to proceed:
- Complete Whimsyshire, but do not teleport out of the level, stay on the map.
- Join a group on a different torment level through the group search.
- Whether higher or lower doesn’t matter.
- But do not teleport to them, instead leave the group again.
- This will temporarily change your torment level and reset your version of Whimsyshire.
- Defeat the boss again and repeat as many times as you like.
What if that doesn’t work (anymore)? If you need a portal at all or if the above trick doesn’t work anymore, you have the following options to increase your chances for a portal:
- Farm elite enemies during hell tides
- This can open dungeons where you can summon large groups of Treasure Goblins using a stone.
- This greatly increases the chance of a portal.
- Farm and open portals in groups
- Team up with other players hunting Whimsyshire.
- If a portal opens, it can be entered by all group members.
Meanwhile, players are particularly celebrating the season. On one hand, because it hits their nerve and is finally fun again. On the other hand, because they can reminisce and meet old friends who are also welcome to stay even after the season: Diablo is finally in Diablo 4 and players want him to stay
