RuneScape: Dragonwilds, the survival spin-off of the MMORPG RuneScape, launched about a year ago in Early Access on Steam. The next big update now leads you into a new area, at the center of which lies a dark fortress full of nasty minions. To defeat them, the developers have you grind for even stronger gear.
What is this update about? Dowdun Reach is the next major free update for RuneScape: Dragonwilds – a survival game in the world of RuneScape. In this update, you will explore not only the new area that gives the update its name – there are also a variety of other new features.
The update is released today, on March 31, 2026. So you can head straight into the new area – alone or with friends.
Here you can see a gameplay trailer for the new update:
What’s included in the update? A major highlight of this update is likely to be the new area, Dowdun Reach. At its center stands a sinister, cursed fortress, inhabited by a great black knight and his nasty minions.
To overcome the enemies in this fortress, you will need to grind. To ensure that further grinding feels worthwhile, the developers have raised the cap for skill levels. It is now set at level 99.
In Dowdun Reach, two special crafting materials await you, with which you can create powerful new weapons and armor, or upgrade your old ones:
- Within the dark fortress, lucrative mithril veins await you, which you can mine and process into 8 different weapons – including a great axe and a great sword.
- From the hides of lesser blue dragons, which you will find in the new area, you can craft a new armor set.
Additionally, the mystical robes from RuneScape make their debut in Dragonwilds, which are perfect for wizards.
From today, you can also play on dedicated servers, now even with up to five instead of three additional players. How exactly the server system works is explained by the developers in a post on Steam.
In April, Dragonwilds will celebrate a year in Early Access. For this occasion, an upcoming update is set to bring a highly requested feature: fishing. In the same update, where you will be able to cast your fishing rod, there will also be new quests, skill spells, decorations, and more. When exactly that will be is not yet revealed by the developers.
Since March 2025, a new boss has been at the helm of Jagex, the developers behind RuneScape: Dragonwilds. And for the 25th anniversary of the series, he has big plans.
