With 7 vs. Wild, Fritz Meinecke has achieved great success, but now there is competition in the survival field. RTL is bringing its own season “Alone” with German contestants.
What is Alone? Alone is a US survival show that is considered a template for 7 vs. Wild in some aspects. Similar to the YouTube survival show, several contestants are set out alone in the wilderness with only 10 items.
Their goal is to survive alone for as long as possible. Contestants can usually win a large cash prize, in the USA it was between 500,000 and 1,000,000 USD. The winner is the one who survives the longest.
The successful format runs in various countries and will also start in Germany on RTL+ in spring 2024. The filming of the German version apparently took place in Canada.

Harder, longer, more extreme – Should Fritz Meinecke be worried?
Is there a reason to worry? Whether there will be a 4th season of 7 vs. Wild is still unknown. Even though there have already been preliminary talks, it will only be decided after the YouTube broadcast whether there will be another season.
Alone will be appearing on RTL+ and will likely require an RTL+ subscription, which could deter many fans, especially since the move to the Amazon service Freevee
has already caused a lot of excitement.
Alone, as a direct competitor, has a slightly different target audience. While the format from Fritz Meinecke mainly features hobby survival experts and influencers, only survival professionals participate in Alone. Because of that alone, Alone is more for viewers who care about survival rather than how long their favorite influencer can last.
So there is initially no reason to worry: Although season 3 of 7 vs. Wild is not performing as well overall as season 2, Amazon service Freevee is likely very satisfied with the audience numbers on its own platform.

Are there more differences to 7 vs. Wild? Yes, there are many differences to 7 vs. Wild. While the basic format is similar, the duration in Alone is an important differentiator. Alone continues until only one person remains. The record in the US season is 100 days, set by Roland Welker, who had to survive in northern Canada in season 7.
In addition, the format relies on more extreme filming locations and survival professionals, hunting is involved and participants face greater dangers like bears. Alone is referred to by RTL as the “hardest survival experiment worldwide.”
Compared to 7 vs. Wild, contestants are even more on their own. Only during regular health checks do contestants see other people. In 7 vs. Wild, there was recently trouble with fans because a team was supposedly dropped off next to a hotel resort.
