The official Twitter account of Riot’s new shooter Valorant has shared a new video showcasing the first hero: Phoenix. It features his skills in action.
This is what to see: In the just 33 seconds long clip, the hero Phoenix can be seen throwing fire abilities as his name suggests.
These abilities are presented along with a short gameplay snippet, which strongly resembles Counter-Strike – but with abilities. But see for yourself:
Previously, a leak revealed the heroine Sage. Additionally, the heroes were also introduced earlier. Phoenix is now the first hero that LoL creators Riot have officially showcased along with gameplay.
First hero: Phoenix
What can Phoenix do? The hero comes with a variety of fire skills. They have been known since March 2, as they were shown in advance to some sites (via Polygon). Phoenix has the following abilities:
- Hot Hands: Throws a fireball that explodes after a short delay or on contact with the ground. The lingering area damages enemies and heals you.
- Blaze: Creates a wall of fire that blocks vision and damages enemies passing through. The wall can be curved by turning while casting.
- Signature Ability – Curveball: A flashbang that can be thrown in a curve, temporarily blinding enemies.
- Ultimate – Run it Back: Marks the current position. If you die during the duration or time runs out, you will respawn at the position with full health.

The signature ability of each hero is free every round. The ultimate has to be charged. All others need to be purchased first.
What is special about Phoenix: Riot has introduced Phoenix as a hero from the United Kingdom. This sounds as if the heroes will receive similar backstories as those from Overwatch, who also come from real existing regions.
In appearance, Phoenix somewhat resembles the Overwatch hero Baptiste. However, the gameplay looks significantly different and resembles CS:GO, which is likely why some CS:GO professionals want to switch upon release.
